Grand Valley State softball has a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season title to defend and is looking to get back to the final round of the NCAA Division II Softball Championship, too.

Following the announcement of the Texas Fastpitch League, the Heart of America Elite Fastpitch League (HFL) made a similar announcement that will include club softball teams from 21 states.

Our nation’s holidays play host to some great softball events and tournaments. The July 4th holiday weekend has become known for great softball in Colorado (as well as fireworks and celebrating our nation’s independence, of course!) and the Labor Day holiday weekend may very well become another fun fastpitch weekend, especially in the Midwest.

In February, ASA/USA Softball announced it would be launching a new event, the USA Softball Junior Olympic Cup, which kicks off next Monday July 26 and will run through Saturday, August 1.

Alex Sobczak is one of the top players from the Class of 2015 and it was announced on Monday that she will be one of 10 standouts attending the Louisville Slugger Hit Club from August 1-3 in Huntington Beach, Calif.

Texan Aubrey Leach was invited after her standout performances in Colorado and Reno the last few weeks. The Louisville Slugger Hit Club is for the top 10 elite hitters from the 2015 class and, over the last week, four of the remaining spots were filled after players were evaluated in eight recent tournaments and showcases including the Boulder IDT and Colorado Fireworks and Sparkler tourneys up through the DeMarini Invitational Showcase, the TC/USA Nationals and the Atlanta Legacy.

This week, Carson is trying to help her club team, Finesse Fastpitch-Dreher (Mich.), win an 18U title at the TC/USA Nationals in Reno, Nev., and then Finesse Fastpitch heads to Chino Hills, Calif., to compete in the ASA/USA Softball JO Cup from July 24-31.

It was another exciting year of high school softball across the nation going back to the fall when states like Georgia, Missouri and Oklahoma competed for state championships.

One of the top players at the Boulder IDT this week is Alex Sobczak who looked strong in today's first full day of action.
