OKLAHOMA CITY – A full week of action came to a close for teams competing in the 2020 USA Softball GOLD National Championships as Hotshots Premier Nelson was crowned the Champion in the 16-Under division (Broken Arrow, Okla.), while the Birmingham Thunderbolts raised the Championship trophy in the 18-Under division (Oklahoma City, Okla.).

When Jay Roberson took over as head coach for the Birmingham Thunderbolts 16U squad this season, he inherited a team loaded with power. Through the first 20 games this fall, the Bolts have already hit 32 home runs.

No one has been able to hit a home run over the fence, including the PGF High School All-Americans, at any of the PGF National Championship games in the past two weeks at Deanna Manning Stadium at Bill Barber Park in Irvine, CA, where the fences are back at the international distance of 220 feet.

After Birmingham Thunderbolts 2024 cut Beverly Bandits Premier's lead to just one in the third inning, the Bandits stole the momentum for good with a five-run fourth inning to take care of the Thunderbolts in a 9-2 victory at the PGF 12U Premier Nationals on Friday afternoon at Fountain Valley Sports Complex in Fountain Valley, CA.

The Birmingham Thunderbolts made a lot of noise with their extra-inning finishes last week at the PGF 18U Premier Nationals, so it was time for Ted Flannery's Thunderbolts to deliver the dramatics at the PGF 14U Premier Nationals on Thursday evening at Huntington Beach Sports Complex.
