FloSoftball continues our look at the Class of 2019 as we update the Hot 100 for the current sophomore class. We're spotlighting 10 each day on the countdown from 100 to No. 1.

The Top 10 prospects of the class will be announced on Friday, February 3 and shortly after we will profile the No. 1 player, the "Next In (101-200)," recruits "On the Bubble (201-300)" and finally the "Top College Rankings" for the '19 class.

Since we first released the 2019 Hot 100 a year ago at this time, there has been a lot of changes as players have emerged as nationally prominent recruits.  In fact, 39 of the players in this second version are new!

These sophomore standouts were chosen based on input and feedback from college and club coaches who've seen them play across the nation. Criteria for choosing and ranking the players including performances at the club and high school levels and projecting how they will play at the collegiate level.

Today we feature players No. 40 to 31 who come from Alabama, California (4), Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, North Carolina (2), Oklahoma and Texas.

null

T-40--Anna Hazlewood P/1B… Huntsville Sparks (Tennessee)
nullHazelwood has the physical tools and make-up to continue to develop as a pitching force. She's close to 6-foot and can hit 66 mph on the radar gun while throwing in the mid-60s regularly. The Westview (Martin, Tennessee) High sophomore is threat with the bat in her hands as she hit .523 as a freshman with an on-base percentage of .523. Hazelwood also fields well, be it in the circle or at first base, and only had one error last spring. When Hazelwood is on, she's all but untouchable--in one freshman high school game for Westview (Tennessee) High, she threw 50 pitches with 40 being strikes and gave up just three hits to win the Maddie Memorial Tournament.

T-40--CJ Wright UT… Lady Lightning (North Carolina State)
nullWright is a 5-foot-6 dynamic spark plug who is flexible to play multiple defensive position and strengthens a team wherever she lines up, which is often at second, third, shortstop, catcher or one of the outfield spots. Offensively, Wrights ignites the offense and sets the table by getting on base several different ways and, once on, can steal a base on any pitch. She attends Apex (North Carolina) High which is just 15 minutes from North Carolina State and made her decision official when she committed in 2015. She recently moved up to John Corns Lightning Platinum team and will play against the top 18U competition in the nation.

39--Deijah Pangilinan OF… Nor Cal Firecrackers (Oregon)
nullPangilinan has been a dominating force at an elite level since she was an 8th grader playing for Sorcerer Gold and hit a key home run in the Boulder IDT. At the plate, she has the talent to keep her hands above the rise ball and confound pitchers. If the ball is close to the zone she's likely on base or circling them. For her St. Patrick-St. Vincent (Vallejo, California) High team she hit .446 with a .507 on-base percentage last year and hit eight home runs with 35 RBI in 21 games.  One of Pangilinan's strengths is her ability to lay out for the ball in critical situations as she will fearlessly dive for balls and has saved many games with her fearless play. After a stellar performance at PGF 14U Nationals three years ago, she had interest from Power 5 schools nationwide but committed to Oregon in the 8th grade.

38--Katie Goldberg MIF… Georgia Impact-Lewis (Virginia)
nullGoldberg comes from a baseball background and despite switching to fastpitch just two years ago, she quickly became the starting second baseman for Coach Patrick Lewis' Impact team and played in the National Championship game despite it being her first year in softball. Katie's glove is as good as anybody's in the country and is similar to that of 2017 Impact shortstop Hannah Adams, a Florida commit who made the USA Softball Jr. National Team, as she makes everything look easy. Katie's bat has really come around too as she hit .529 at PGF Nationals last summer. The Marist (Georgia) High sophomore earned 1st Team All-Region AAAA honors for the second year in a row after batting .426. She had several ACC and SEC schools pursuing her last year before she committed to the Cavaliers.

T-37--Candace Yingling 1B… Explosion-Denio/Wilson (Cal-Berkeley)
nullYingling is a coach's dream in that she is big (5-foot-10), strong, athletic, and possesses a great softball mind. Defensively she is one of the best in her class in digging balls out of the dirt and had a fielding percentage of .989 for the fall while playing almost every inning at first base for Bret Denio and Jim Wilson's elite 18U team. Offensively, Candace has been batting in the 3-hole and is always a threat to go deep. She does not get cheated and teams must pitch her carefully as she can make you pay if you leave anything close. As a freshman at Vista Murrieta (Murrieta, California) High, Yingling led her team to the quarterfinals and batted .542 with 10 home runs on the season which broke the school record for a freshman set by Sierra Romero and Taylor and Tatum Edwards. She was named 2nd Team All State by CalHiSports.com and 1st Team All CIF Div. 1. Candace committed to Cal last fall.

T-37--Valerie Pero C/3B… Explosion-Greg (Oregon State)
nullValerie, or "Val" as she goes by, has a cannon for an arm and averages sub-1.8 pop times with the athleticism to jump out on any play in front of the plate. She's 5-foot-4, but plays like she's 6-foot and her defensive skills are matched by power at the plate with the ability to leave the yard at any time. A leader in the dugout and on the field, Pero comes to the loaded Greg Borzilerri 16U Explosion squad and was among the team leaders in home runs this fall. She won a 14U PGF Nationals title in 2015 in which she hit .438 and had a double and RBI single in the championship game with the OC Batbusters-Campbell team and this year helped her team finish 3rd. Val committed to Laura Berg and the Beavers in December.

36--D'Asha Saiki MIF… OC Batbusters-Stith (Cal-Berkeley)
nullSaiki hails from Honolulu, Hawaii and can play any position and bat anywhere in the line-up. A gifted, pure hitter who has hit 250 foot bombs in tournaments, she has the athleticism and to have led off for Mark Campbell's OC Batbuster 14U team that finished 3rd at PGF Nationals. This year, the Punahou High sophomore will move up to Mike Stith's powerful 18U team. Coaches rave about D'Asha's softball sense and physical skills; one top coach says, "What I like about her is she understands her role and how to fit in and help a team." D'Asha attended the USSA Elite 30 All-American Camp in August and was selected as a 1st Team All-American.  She committed to the Bears in the Fall of 2016.

35--Grace Green P/1B… Team Mizuno Impulse (Oregon)
nullGreen is a lefty-handed pitcher who throws around 64-65 mph and excels with her rise, a 12-to-6 dropball and change-up. She's also very effective in mixing speeds and has pin-point accuracy. Offensively, she's a power hitter and RBI producer who uses the entire field. Green led Birdville (North Richland Hills, Texas) High to the 5A State Championship and picked up tourney MVP and 1st Team All-State honors as she pitched every playoff game but one as she had 229 strikeouts on the season with a 1.42 ERA and a .418 batting average. Over the summer she pitched the Impulse to a 7th place finish at PGF 14U Nationals and moved up to the 18U team this fall and hit .511 with a 0.60 ERA. Green attended the USA Select 30 All-American Camp in August and walked away with 1st Team All-American honors. She committed to Oregon in October of 2015.

34--Julia Jimenez SS/3B… Firecrackers-Rico (Michigan)
nullJulia, who goes by "Juju," can play the all of the infield spots and even catch as she loves to compete. Her bat is her strength as she is a line-to-line hitter effective at finding the gaps. She plays beyond her years and one top coach commented, "Julia embraces the moment and does well at staying calm no matter the situation. She had a big year, helping Etiwanda (California) High go 29-3 to finish No. 20 in the FloSoftball FAB 50 High School Rankings. Juju hit .427 with 47 RBI and 10 home runs in 31 games and only struck out twice in two plate appearances. She was heavily recruited by ACC, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC programs before she committed to the Wolverines in October of 2015.

T-33--Abby Herbst P/1B… Beverly Bandits (Wisconsin)
nullHerbst had a huge year both in club ball and in high school. Playing for Center Grove (Greenwood, Indiana) High, she earned 2nd Team FloSoftball All-American honors after going 13-1 in the circle with a 1.22 ERA while batting .519 and driving in 35 RBI. She started off her varsity playoff career in style, pitching an eight-inning shutout and hitting the game-winning home run. Herbst transitioned into club play with similar success, going 4-1 with a 1.81 ERA and smashing six home runs for Cray Allen's 14U Bandits team at Boulder IDT. Although that week earned her many major college offers, the day she returned from Colorado--July 4, 2016--she committed to the Badgers. This fall she moved up with Coach Allen to play at the 18U age division and should have an explosive year in the circle as an elite pitcher with a strong drop, drop curve and change and at the plate as a dangerous lefty home run and RBI threat.

T-33--Paige Cook IF… East Cobb Bullets-Biele (Mississippi State)
nullThe phrase you continually hear from scouts to describe Paige Cook is "pure hitter." She finished last club season on Andrew Biele's Bullets talent-laden team as leading the squad in home runs, RBI, doubles and slugging percentage. Cook went on a tear over the summer and from June 1 through the end of PGF Nationals two months later was tops in all of those categories. She moved up this fall to play 18U and in three events total batted .474 with 21 RBI. In high school ball this fall, the sophomore hit .476 with 14 steals and eight homers for Habersham Central (Mt. Airy, Georgia) High. Cook is also one of the strongest players in the class as she has squatted 335 pounds at winter workouts. Cook had several SEC offers before ultimately committing to Mississippi State in November of 2015.

32--Rylie Boone OF/P… Tulsa Elite (Oklahoma)
nullBoone is a true lefty with blazing speed who can slap and play small ball but also hits for power.  One top club coach said, "Rylie is one of the best hitters in this class we faced this past year." She has mid-60s pitch velocity and some coaches have compared her athleticism to Kelsey Stewart, the Florida Gator All-American, when she was the same age. Defensively, Rylie is an excellent centerfielder with great range and a strong arm. She can also deliver a devastating change-up.  Best of all, Rylie elevates her game in clutch situations and rises to the occasion. As a freshman at Owasso (Oklahoma) High, she earned All-State honors after batting .533 with a .584 on-base percentage and a 9-1 pitching record and 1.13 ERA. Rylie had multiple offers from Top 25 schools before deciding to stay in-state and committing to the Sooners in September of 2015.

31--Paige Smith 3B… Athletics-Mercado/Smith (Ole Miss)
nullSmith is one of the top power-hitting corner infielders in the country and one coach says, "her power is crazy." As a freshman, she was one of the top players for her Norco (California) High team that went finished 26-6 after making it to the CIF Southern Section semifinals and ranked No. 36 in the final FloSoftball FAB 50 High School Rankings. Smith hit a game-winning RBI double in the quarters typical of her elevating her game when it counts. She has played with Dave Mercado's A's teams since she won a PGF 12U National Championship in 2014 and helped the Athletics win a 14U title last summer. After having heavy interest from Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC programs, Paige committed to the Rebels in February of 2016.
