PLAYERS ON THE MOVE

*** Two excellent athletes we followed and were very impressed with at PGF this summer have decided to switch teams.

Justus Perry, the 2016 IF who played on the Minnesota Sting 16U Gold team this summer, is going to take some long trips to be part of the Birmingham Bolts 18 Premier team coached by Richard Shea.

Justus Perry of the Minnesota Sting gets ready for the play in action against the OC Batbusters-MyersPerry, who has committed to Arizona State and will be blogging for us (see her first piece this Wednesday, wrote to tell StudentSportsSoftball.com:

“The Bolts just seemed like a perfect fit for me. With the warm weather and softball there’s no better combination! As a family, we really thought this team would make me a better ball player and get me ready to compete at a higher level. Coach Shea will be the coach and he has put together a great staff and program!”

When we spoke to Justus this summer, it seemed like there was uncertainty around her commit to ASU with the coaching change, but she confirmed she’s Pac-12 bound.

“I am still committed to ASU,” she said. “I truly can say I fell in love with the school. School is very important to me and I want to be somewhere I can succeed and get better at what I want to do later on in life. I’m hoping to get down to ASU this winter and get to know the new coaches more.”

Here’s a fun video interview done with Justus during the PGF tourney.

Natalie Peters*** Natalie Peters, the speedy slapper who impressed during the PGF when playing for The Next Level, will be playing for The OC Batbusters–Haning team we learned today.

Peters, who we did a video piece on a few weeks ago, also made our All-Summer Team because of her speed getting down the line.

She’s a 2015 outfielder committed to Michigan.

Stay tuned to tomorrow’s Daily Update when we’ll have three others who will play on the OC Batbusters-Haning team including a pair of sisters.

RECRUIT PROFILE: Carsyn Gordon

On Friday we wrote that Miami Stingray 2015 infielder Carsyn Gordon had committed to Florida State.  We connected with her since then and asked her the details of her commitment to the Noles.

Carsyn Gordon (Miami Stingrays)
Carsyn is still on cloud nine after committing last Wednesday, saying: “It’s all still so surreal, I am going to play for FSU. Wow!”

By way of background, Carsyn was a Miami Hearld All-Dade Co. 1st team selection for the 8A state champ, Coral Reef Senior, this year. She plays third and short and hit .538 with 26 RBI and 31 runs for her Miami, Fla. high school.

Here’s more on the talented player:

StudentSportsSoftball.com: How did you commit to FSU?
Carsyn Gordon: I committed the evening of August 21 (last Wednesday) on the phone with (Head) Coach (Lonni) Alameda.  I was so nervous and anxious all day thinking about what to do, once I was on the phone with her it all just fell into place.  After I hung up with Coach Alameda I spoke with (Assistant) Coach (Craig) Snider and (Assistant) Coach (Travis) Wilson. It was a great night!  My family and friends were going crazy, all of them were so excited and happy for me.

SSS.com: Why commit now?
CG: Why not? (laughs) After I had made my decision, I knew nothing was going to change my mind. There was really no reason to wait.

SSS.com: What was it about the program you liked enough to decide it’s the place for you?
CG: My dream was to play at an ACC or SEC school and my decision came down to FSU or Florida, two great programs with amazing coaching staffs.  They both showed my family and me a tremendous amount of respect.  In the end I just had a feeling and I kept going back to FSU.  When I made the phone call, I knew I picked the best place for me.

SSS.com: You’ve had a lot of success on the high school and club softball fields… what have been the top accomplishments you’ve had in your softball career so far?

CG: I have three.  One, making the All-Miami Dade 1st team my freshman and sophomore years; two, winning the 8A state championship with my high school team, the Coral Reef Barracudas; three, my entire career with the Stingrays, especially the last two years with Gator Rebhan, placing 4th in the nation with 16U and then placing 7th in the nation with 18U.  Along with my parents, Gator and the Stingrays have been a great influence in my softball life.  They push me and encourage me to always do my best on and off the field.

TEAM SPOTLIGHT: Wagner’s Maryland Gold

*** Today, we look at one of the top program’s in the Mid-Atlantic region, the Wagner’s Maryland Gold, which is part of the Wagner’s group that had two teams finish in the top 10 at ASA Gold Nationals this year in Clearwater, Fla.:  Wagner’s Gold Dunn (finished 2nd) and Wagner’s Sport55 (finished 9th).

Incidentally, the Wagner’s Sport55 team out of Temple Terrace, Fla., is coached by Reese Kiple, who coached the Wagner’s team several years ago that USA National Team members Lauren Gibson and Kourtney Salvarola were on.
