Hot 100 Seniors (#80-71)

We continue our look at the top 100 players in the 2014 class… we’re spotlighting 10 each day for the next two weeks in the countdown from 100 to No. 1. The seniors were chosen based on input and feedback from college and club coaches. Criteria for choosing and ranking the players including performances at the club and high school levels and projecting how they will play at the collegiate level.

Today we feature players No. 80 to 71 with standout players from California, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, New Jersey, Oklahoma and Texas…

Check out more of 2014's HOT 100: 100-91, 90-81

#80... Marissa Panko (SS, Illinois Chill Gold)--Northwestern
Marissa is a converted lefty to take advantage of her speed and her power is coming along nicely: she led the Chill in extra base hits this past year and tied for the team lead in home runs. On defense she has great glove-to-hand transfer quickness and is a natural shortstop who is headed to the Wildcat program where several former Chill friends await her arrival.
#79... Patricia Parks (P, OC Batbusters-Gonzalez)--Arizona
Patricia is a natural born softball player who's tall and lanky, but is like a cat in fielding her position in the circle. She is also an outstanding hitter and is fast on the bases, but was recruited by Arizona primarily as a pitcher. She has a great fastball in the mid 60;s and then can throw a knuckle change-up for a strike.
#78... Mallory Collins (IF/OF/P, Tulsa Elite)--Oklahoma State
Mallory is a five-tool player who hits in the three hole for the Tulsa Elite team that finished fifth at this year's ASA Gold Nationals and won the ASA/USA 16A Nationals in 2012. She also pitches in the 62-65 mph range but is going to OSU on her bat and athleticism and will play either middle infield or outfield.
#77... Taylor White (C/OF, Corona Angels)--Ohio State
Taylor is a multi-position threat who has the catching tools to excel at the next level, but also the speed to bunt her way on as an outfielder. Because of her great athletic abilities and work ethic, Corona Angels' coaches are so high on her they believe the Southern California standout has the potential to be an All-American in college.
#76... Miranda Grotenhuis (C/3B, Texas Bombers)--Louisiana-Lafayette
Originally committed to Alabama, Grotenhuis switched to the Ragin' Cajuns in September where she'll take her dangerously powerful bat. She's a corner infielder who can catch, but wherever she plays she'll be an offensive threat as she can turn any mistake pitch into a home run. She also can hit for average and knows the game as her father, James Grotenhuis, is her high school softball coach.
#75... Morgan Walters (1B/3B, East Cobb Bullets-Schnute)--Missouri
Morgan is a corner infielder who has a compact, explosive swing and can drive the ball to all fields. She hits moon shots for home runs, but also hits for average. She was the Georgia Class A Player of the Year as a junior last fall when she hit .500, hit 11 home runs and had a slugging percentage of 1.075.
#74... Tori Vidales (3B/SS, Impact Gold-Texas)--Texas A&M
Tori is about as pure of a hitter as you'll find and one of the best to come out of Texas in years. She's strong, smart and can hit any pitch--she can't be fooled. Defensively, she has good hands and quick feet and comes from great athletic DNA, too: her father, Johnny, played baseball at Texas Tech, her mom, Rhonda, played basketball at Blinn College and her brother, Josh, is a freshman baseball player at Houston.
#73... Allison Stewart (P/1B, KC Peppers)--Arkansas
Allison is a two-time Gatorade Kansas State Player of the Year and is a threat in the circle and at the plate as shown by her hitting a grand slam at PGF 18U Premier Nationals this summer for the Peppers. This past spring, she went 13-1 as a pitcher with a 0.39 ERA and 164 K's and only two walks in 90.1 innings. Offensively, she hit .487 with 42 RBI.
#72... Alyssa VanDerveer (C/1B, Jersey Intensity)--Penn State
Alyssa is one of most feared power hitters in the East and has compiled a .520 batting average and 15 home runs in her New Jersey high school career. Pitchers really shy away from her: she had 66 at bats in 2013 and 25 were walks (14 intentionally) as she led her team to its first-ever sectional crown. Nicknamed "The Wall," she had 28 home runs for Intensity last fall and summer. Photo: NJ.com
#71... Katelyn Fuller (IF, Georgia Power DeMarini)--Georgia
Katelyn's strongest attribute is her fierce desire to excel at the highest level. She simply won't be defeated and has an intense desire to be the best. Her main incentive is to honor her late father, who was killed in a work accident a year and a half ago. Katelyn is tall at 5-foot-11 and is strong but athletic enough to play anywhere on the field although it's likely she'll be an infielder in the SEC.
