Daily Update 10.18.13

We continue our look at the National Elite Camp including some recruiting news out of the event as well as a video showing you what the athletes did.  We also look at a Midwestern state and the top players in it and review the first day of Oklahoma h.s. playoff action for the big schools.  Finally, we start our list of top 2014 uncommitted players which, in time, we’ll make a stand-alone list.  Enjoy the weekend everyone!

EVENT: NATIONAL ELITE CAMP

Friday is the second day of the National Elite Camp and games were taking place all day…hope to report on those next week.

Did have a couple odds and ends to report from yesterday:

Bri Perez
Bri Perez

— C/MIF Shaye Bowden (2017, AZ Hotshots 16U)
She’s going to be a big time recruit and said she’s visiting all kinds of major programs, with unofficials to Oklahoma, Tennessee, Washington and UCLA (this week).

— SS/2B Briana Perez (2017, Sorcerer 18U)
Bri, the younger sister of Kylee Perez—who we ranked No. 2 in our Hot 100 seniors list that came out today—pretty much knows where she’ll go.  She’s got it down to four at this time (in no particular order): Stanford, Oregon, Washington and UCLA.

— P/MIF Grace Green (2018, Sorcerer 14U Williams)
Grace just looks like an athlete and tested really well in the OnDeck Measurement, which combines the running (10, 20, 40 yard dash) with overhand throw and bat speed/exit speed.  She’s coordinated and fluid in her movements and it comes from her DNA, but not in the typical athletic way you’d think.

Her dad and mom have rodeo backgrounds and dad is a professional on the rodeo tour! Grace added that she’s grown up on a 40 acre farm and has four or five horses so she’s been active around, and chasing, animals all her life.

— P/1B Victoria Galvan (2017, NJ Intensity)
Big girl who was wild in some of her pitching drills due to nervousness but, boy, does she pass the “get off the bus eyeball test.”  Her mom, Victoria Galvan, played at Fordham and mom says Victoria is willing to leave the NY-NJ area so teams looking for a 2017 pitcher who has major upside should check in now!

Others who impressed:

Konnor Dahlberg
Konnor Dahlberg

Kennedy Johnson, a 2015 1B with the Corona Angels-Howard team had three bombs over the 190 foot fence in one hitting drill.  Her shots drew ohhs and ahhs from the players.
Kendal Judge, a 2016 P/3B on the Mizuno Hawks 16U team, also had a home run that got people talking.
Denae Chatman, 2017 P/MIF on the AZ Storm Mizuno squad, just draws your eye because she’s very athletic.  Didn’t see her pitch, but she’s worth following if only because she moves well and looks to have a high ceiling.
Konner Dahlberg, a 2017 P/1B on Power Surge 99, is another one that passes the eyeball test.  She’s tall and athletic and supposedly tested well.

SIGHTS & SOUNDS OF THE NATIONAL ELITE CAMP

Here’s a nice video piece we put together today that includes comments from Derek Allister clips of each segment of the day including hitting, pitching, defense and testing elements.

RECRUITING NEWS:

*** After we ran our piece last week on the SE Iowa Hawks, got a great response from coaches, players and parents saying they appreciated hearing about teams that are unusual or not on the beaten path (in this case, meaning the Hawks have to combat not being able to play in events during the summer because high school ball eats up much of the summer schedule).

That being said, we love our Iowa followers and appreciate the feedback we’ve received including a panel of experts in the state who listed the top players.
