Spring Training Triple Crown Sports event logo 2014Triple Crown Sports celebrated its 19th year of the Spring Training Championship in Arizona in Mesa/Glendale, AZ on April 12-13 making it one of the longest-running fastpitch tournaments TCS produces behind the Colorado Fireworks which turns 45 in July.

Sixteen teams in each of the 12U, 14U B, and 14U Open divisions competed with hopes of qualifying for the 2014 TC World Series held in Park City, Utah and Reno, Nev.  The top four teams in each division earned automatic berths.

It was the Desert Thunder-Cole squad out of Tucson, Ariz. winning the 12U division finishing the weekend 6-1, including a 5-2 victory over the AZ Cougars (6-1) in the championship game.

The Thunder finished 2-1 in pool play and earned a No. 2 seed in the C pool.  They ran off four-straight bracket wins en route to winning the championship.

East Valley Monsoon playing out of Apache Junction, Ariz. finished the tournament with a perfect 7-0 record and won the 14U B Division.  The Monsoon cruised past its competition in pool play outscoring its opponents 35-14 in those games and earning a No. 1 seed in the C pool.

East Valley held its opponents scoreless in round one and round two of bracket play going 15-0 and 5-0, respectively.  They would go on to defeat Liberty 2K in the championship game 11-3 to win the crown.

The Suncats from Oro Valley, AZ finished 7-0 and won the 14 Open Division with a 11-4 win over the Hotshots 99-Muniz squad in the championship game.

The Suncats had impressive wins in pool play scoring 34 runs and holding opponents to an unprecedented one run.  The team sailed through bracket play with a 17-0 win in Round One, 16-2 in Round Two, and 10-2 in the Semifinals.

Next Up….The Triple Crown Fastpitch 2014 tournament schedule continues this weekend with the annual Spring Stampede in Greeley/Loveland/Windsor, Colorado.  Over 50 teams are slated to compete, in what is the second tournament of the year for the TC Colorado Fastpitch Series.
