Recruiting: Lower South Liberty pair commit (4/21)

Saturday was an exciting day for the Lower South Liberty (Pa.) program as two sophomores in the program committed to LaSalle University in Philadelphia.

Here’s a look at each recruit who will be headed to the Atlantic 10 Conference:

Courtney Shupp
Courtney Shupp

Courtney Shupp is a 2016 catcher/first baseman who is in her first season with the Liberty Gold and according to Head Coach Dan Santelli, “made an immediate impact upon joining the Gold team this past fall.”

Courtney attends Bethlehem Catholic High School in Bethlehem, Pa. and was selected to the 3rd Team All-Lehigh Valley Team and was also an All-Conference honoree as a freshman.

She will be joining fellow Liberty Gold Class of 2013 grad Christina Bascara at LaSalle as well.

“I began playing softball at the age of 7 and have loved it ever since,” says Courtney. “I also played the sports of basketball, volleyball, and soccer; but my passion and drive to succeed drove me away from those sports in order to focus mainly on softball.”

The sophomore has a 3.32 GPA and helped lead Bethlehem Catholic to a district title last year.

Meghan Nally
Meghan Nally

Meghan Nally is a 2016 first baseman/outfielder who is in her second season with Liberty Gold and “played a key role in the success of the Gold team this past year,” according to Coach Santelli helping the team make it the PGF Nationals where they finished 33rd at the 18U division.

Meghan began her career with the Liberty organization as a member of the first Liberty 14U team.

She attends Bensalem High (Pa.) and was selected 2nd Team All-Suburban One League in 2013.

The lefty thrower/hit has a 3.82 GPA and is a strong all-around athlete—she was the MVP of the Bensalem varsity volleyball team last year and also has played basketball.

“Playing other sports, I have become most fond of softball,” Meghan explains. “People can say that being on a competitive sports team can be almost as if it is a job with all of the practice and time put into it; but softball is a lifestyle that I love.”

She started off as a pitcher but says she “gave it up to focus on my hitting for the higher levels.”
