ASA/USA 18U GOLD Winner’s Eight (7/24)
There were eight games in the winner’s bracket with, surprisingly enough, eight winners who advanced in the ASA/USA 18U & 16U GOLD Nationals
These quarterfinals will take place at the Hall of Fame Stadium at 12:30 pm CST.
Here’s a look at the games, which teams won and what players had standout performances:
***
Houston Power Gold-Glowacz 7, Sarasota Heat 1
The Texas team racked up 13 hits and jumped out to a three run lead in the 1st inning and never trailed as Kurstin Martin singled in two runs to spark the offense. Lindsey McLeod was the pitching star as she gave up four hits and one earned run in seven strong innings.
Southern Force 18 Gold 1, St. Louis Gamers Gold 0
Pitcher Faith Sims (2015, Jacksonville State) pitched a complete game shutout as she gave up only two hits and one walk to stymie the Gamers. Sims struck out five and also shined at the plate going 2-for-2.
Wagners Gold-Dunn 5, Georgia Power DeMarini Gold 0
Lele Occasion (2014, Florida) struck out eight while only giving up three hits in a complete game shutout and helped her cause by tripling in a run and going 2-for-4 at the plate. Ashley Swiderski (2014, Central Florida) also had two hits with a pair of RBI.
Atlanta Vipers-Loveless 7, American Pastime 3
Pitcher Savannah McHellon (2014, Georgia) continues to shine as one of the tournament’s top players as she homered and had two RBI while pitching five innings and scattering four hits while not allowing any runs.
Blue Angels Gold 5, DBAT Tulsa Shootout 2
The Blue Angels put up two runs in the 3rd and four more in the 4th to put the game out of reach. Kat Moore (2015, Arkansas) paced the offense as she went 2-for-4 with a single and triple and knocked in two runs.
Beverly Bandits-DeMarini 3, Gators Gold-Flannery 2
In one of the best games of the day, the Bandits jumped on the first only to fall behind in the top of the third 2-1. However, the Midwest team added two runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning and All-American Taran Alvelo (2015, Washington) made the lead stand up as she gave up only two hits, one walk and no runs in 4 1/3 innings.
Lil Rebels 6, Louisiana Patriots Gold 2
The Lil Rebels 96 put up five runs on the board in the 2nd inning and made them stand as pitcher Jacquelyn Sertic (2014, North Dakota State) gave up two runs in the second but held the Patriots at bay after that. Heather Bowen (Utah, 2014) was the hitting star going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
St. Louis Chaos-Beatty 2, STL Academy Gold 0
Ace pitcher Maddie Seifert (2015, Penn State) showed why she’s one of the top pitchers in the nation as she pitched a complete game shutout allowing only a pair of hits and two walks while striking out four. Katie Reed (2015, Louisville) had a two-run double in the first to plate the only runs of the game.
