One of the most amazing things I’ve seen all fall took place last Saturday—Nov. 22, 2014—at the Surf City Early Thanksgiving Showcase.

About three dozen college coaches, representing programs like Florida, Oregon, Texas, Stanford and many more, went to Harvard Park in Irvine, Calif. to watch the So Cal A’s and the Wichita Mustangs play. It was like a NCAA coaching convention!

Many of the coaches, if not most of them, were there to watch a promising 2019 battery for the Wichita Mustangs that was one of the most talked about elements of the event.

Catcher Julia Cottrill is considered the top backstop at her position in the ’19 class and she was one of the stars of the West Coast Elite National Camp in October. Pitcher Kaylee Hewitt is also being watched closely and has many top programs interested.

I caught up with them after their game and asked them about being so heavily scrutinized. Did they know all those coaches were eyeing them closely? Oh yea!

Here’s a closer look at Julia, who’s a hometown girl from Wichita, Kan., and Kaylee, who hails from Artesia, N.M. Chances are you’ll be hearing a lot about these young talents for many years to come…
