Halfway through the 2017 Hot 100 (12/14)
Halfway through the 2017 Hot 100 (12/14)
One week done, one to go as we’ve unveiled the standout fastpitch players listed as No’s 100 to 51 in the 2017 Hot 100.
This Monday through Friday we’ll get to players ranked No. 50 down to the top player in the sophomore class.
Halfway through the list, here are some early trends of note…
*****
*** Colleges who have the most commits so far (players ranked 51-100):
- Auburn (4)
- Ohio State (3)
- Texas A&M (3)
- Schools with two commits: Arizona, Arkansas, North Carolina State, Northwestern, South Carolina, Wisconsin
*** You don’t have to be going to a so-called “big-name” program or belong to a “power conference” to make the list either.
Here are some of these universities who have at least one player already on the list:
- Alabama-Birmingham
- Memphis
- UC Davis
- South Florida
*** Because this is the youngest class in which we’ve ranked players, it’s not surprising that many are uncommitted in the first batch of 50 players honored.
How many would you guess are still considering their options?
The answer: 11 players
*** Several club organizations – meaning not just one team but can be several squads – have multiple players listed already.
Here’s the list of all who have more than one player to have made the first 50 cut:
- Georgia Impact: (7)
- Beverly Bandits (5)
- Birmingham Thunderbolts (4)
- So Cal Athletics (4)
- Texas Glory (3)
- Club organizations with two players: Atlanta Vipers – Vallery, Corona Angels, Firecrackers – Blanco, San Diego Power Surge, So Cal Choppers, Sorcerer Gold, Wichita Mustangs
*** In terms of states producing players, California leads the way as usual with 18 players being in the 50 players released to date.
The list so far goes like this:
- California (18)
- Georgia (10)
- Texas (5)
- Alabama (4)
- States with two players: Florida, Kansas
*** 15 states have been represented so far: Ala., Ariz., Calif., Fla., Ga., Ill., Ind., Kan., Mass., N.C., N.J., Ohio, Okla., Texas, Wisc.
*** Finally, here are some first names that are more “popular:”
- Abby (3)
- Hannah (3)
- Same names of two players: Jenna, Keara/Kiara, Mackenzie, Maddie/Madison, Mariah, Taylor
