Maryland (20-23, 4-11 Big Ten) edged Penn State (22-25, 6-11 Big Ten) in game three of the three-game series Sunday afternoon at the Maryland Softball Stadium behind solid pitching, clean defense and hits from seven different Terps.

JoJo McRae and Bailey Boyd finished the day with two hits apiece and the Terps stole five total bases, its most as a team since stealing five vs. Drexel on February 13, 2015.

Penn State opened up the scoring with a solo homer off senior right-hander Sydney Golden in the third inning. However, that's all the damage Golden faced, as she pitched four innings, limiting the Nittany Lions to just three hits and one run while striking out one before senior Sami Main came in to relieve her.

The Terps responded and got on the board right away. Regan Kerr reached on a hard grounder to the shortstop that was bobbled, JoJo McRae singled, and a Shelby Younkin single scored Kerr, driving in her sixth run of the season. Taylor Wilson was next up to the plate and crushed a double to the gap, driving home a couple more runs and giving Maryland the 3-1 lead through three.

Maryland added a couple more across on a huge Regan Kerr double and bases-loaded walk issued to Taylor Wilson which gave the Terps a four-run lead heading into the fifth inning.

Sami Main entered in relief and took over pitching duties from Golden, allowing a three-run homer in the top of the fifth but holding the Nittany Lions scoreless otherwise. Penn State threatened again in the top of the seventh with two runners in scoring position, but a flyout secured the save for Main and the win for the Terps.

Maryland will face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in Piscataway, N.J. for a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday at 1 p.m. before traveling to Nebraska for a three-game series on Friday.
