Freshman Miranda Schulte had two RBIs, junior Allison Doocy threw her second complete game of the year, and the University of Iowa softball team (2-4) defeated the Kansas Jayhawks (1-6), 2-1, on Friday afternoon at the ESPN Wide World of Sports.

Schulte earns her first two RBIs of her career, while Doocy earns her second win of the season. She has 31 strikeouts on the season.

HEAR FROM COACH GILLISPIE
"The girls were strong all game long. The defense was unbelievable, Halle (Ketcham) made a great catch in the outfield, Abby (Lien) behind the plate made some fantastic plays. (Ashley Hamilton) was all over the place at shortstop and Doocy played a great game on the mound with seven strikeouts. They are all coming together doing what they needed to do."

HEAR FROM ALLISON DOOCY
"The defense was really backing me up, making the plays they needed to and we saw some progress in our at bats. We had a lot more quality at bats today."

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawkeyes got on the board first with a single in the first inning by freshman Miranda Schulte to bring home freshman Halle Ketcham.

The Hawkeyes and Jayhawks remained scoreless until the sixth inning with Doocy not allowing a runner past second base.

In the sixth, Ketcham reached first on an infield single to the third baseman and stole second on a delayed steal to put herself in scoring position. Schulte brought home Ketcham again for her second RBI of the afternoon and gave Iowa much needed insurance heading into the final frame.

In the seventh, Kansas scored on a single to right field, but with runners on first and third, sophomore Ashley Hamilton recorded the final out, recording the force out at second.
