Since the Oklahoma Sooners made history last season by winning a fourth consecutive softball national championship, so much has changed in the world of collegiate sports.

It took some time for elite college softball to reach the East Coast, but once it arrived, certain programs didn’t hold back from building juggernaut programs.

Basketball has its madness in March. But college softball can lay claim to some mayhem of its own that begins in mid-May and runs into June.

Growing up in Lawton, Oklahoma, University of North Texas head softball coach Rodney DeLong was a die-hard Oklahoma Sooners football fan. When he began coaching softball, DeLong, now in his third season with the Mean Green, looked up to Sooners head softball coach Patty Gasso. So it was only fitting that on February 29, 2020, DeLong would lead his team to victory over the school he rooted for as a boy while making history at the same time.

ACC Cancels All Athletic Activities Through End of 2019-20 Academic Year

Statement from the Atlantic Coast Conference:“The Atlantic Coast Conference has suspended all athletic-related activities including all competition, formal and organized practice, recruiting and participation in NCAA championships until further notice. The decision was made following consultation with the league’s presidents and athletic directors to mitigate the further spread of COVID-19.”
