Creighton’s Kailey Wilson had a strong weekend to wrap up her junior season, batting a BIG EAST-best .750 against DePaul. Wilson starred in Saturday’s victory, going 3-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI. The Aurora, Colo. native ends her season with the highest batting average during league play in the BIG EAST at .524, while also leading the conference with a .620 on base percentage and .984 slugging percentage during BIG EAST contests.
BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week
Alyssa Graves, Butler, Gr., P (East Peoria, Ill.)
Butler’s Alyssa Graves surrendered just two earned runs over 13 innings of work against Providence, helping the Bulldogs secure a spot in the BIG EAST Softball Championship. The graduate student fired a five-hit complete game shutout while striking out six in Saturday’s 1-0 win over the Friars. Graves came back the next day to throw six more innings, allowing just two runs in another Bulldog victory.
BIG EAST Softball Freshman of the Week
Ella White, Butler, Fr., IF/OF (Noblesville, Ind.)
Butler freshman Ella White batted .444 and drove in four runs as part of Butler’s 2-1 weekend against Providence. Her biggest moment came on Sunday, as White’s three-run walk-off home run clinched Butler’s spot in next week’s BIG EAST Softball Championship. The home run capped off a four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning to deliver Butler the victory.
BIG EAST Softball Weekly Honor Roll
Anna Wohlers, DePaul, Fr., C (Davenport, Iowa) – Wohlers played a big role in both of DePaul’s wins over Creighton this weekend. The freshman had three RBI in the game one win on Friday, and would add a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Sunday’s series finale win.
Julia Parker, Georgetown, So., P (South Plainfield, N.J.) – Parker went the distance in all three games this weekend against St. John’s, winning two of them. Her sharpest outing came on Sunday, in which she allowed just four hits and one run while striking out five in the complete game win.
Tori Grifone, Providence, So., P (Sussex, N.J.) – Grifone was missing bats all afternoon long in Friday’s win over Butler. The sophomore struck out 11 Bulldogs across seven innings of three-hit ball, marking the second straight weekend in which Grifone has struck out 11 batters in a game.
Taylor Hill, Seton Hall, Fr., INF (Little Falls, N.J.) – Hill kept her consistent play going this weekend at Villanova, batting .500 in the series. The freshman went 1-for-3 with a run scored in the game one win, followed by a three-hit performance with an RBI on Saturday.
Paige Rauch, Villanova, Gr., P/UT (Windsor, N.Y.) – Rauch went the distance in Sunday’s win over Seton Hall. The graduate allowed just five hits and no earned runs on the afternoon while striking out seven.
