Findlay picked up 2 wins today, including taking down Saint Anselm, who was undefeated and ranked #12 in the country.

Saint Anselm No Longer Undefeated. Findlay Completes The Upset

Saint Anselm held a perfect 12-0 record today before running into Findlay. The Oilers were able to complete the upset and take down the #12 team in the country.

Winter Haven, FL - The University of Findlay softball team traveled on the road to Winter Haven, FL on Saturday, Feburuary 29th to take on Davenport and Saint Anslem. The Oilers picked up the first of two victories in a 2-0 game against Davenport, then continued to tac on another one to the win column against 12th-ranked Saint Anselm in a 3-1 victory. With the two victories, the Oilers improve to .500 on the year with a 4-4 record.

Game 1 (W 2-0 vs. Davenport)

The Oilers started their week long trip to Florida in a hurry by getting on board in the first inninng, and in a big way. After a walk drawn by Allison Brunner, Lyndsey Seamon came to the plate with Brunner standing on second and two outs in the innning. With one swing, Lyndsey drove it over the center field wall to put the Oilers up 2-0 early. The first inning started strong for the Oilers on offense, but the game was won with defense and pitching.

Pitcher Caragyn Yanek took the circle for the Oilers and dominated from start to finish. Through six innings, Yanek had a no-hitter entering the seventh inning. After getting two fly outs to center field, she was one out away from completing a no-hit shutout. Davenport brought in a pinch hitter to try and swiitch things up and an infield single broke up the no-hitter bid. Yanek ended the game with a complete game, one hit shutout including eight strikeouts and allowing three walks.

The Oilers were led on offense by Seamon with two runs batted in and the homerun in the first. Rebecca Harvey, Megan Fisher, Caroline Turner, Dylan Wiley, and Gloria Corona each had a hit as well.

Game 2 (W 3-1 vs. Saint Anselm)

The Oilers took the field and struck first once again in the top half of the third inning. Gloria Corona started the inning off with a signle up the middle. After Corona stole second,  Megan Fisher singled through the right side to bring Corona home to go up 1-0. Saint Anselm tied it back up after a single brought a runner home.

With the score tied 1-1, the Oilers wasted no time in their next opportunity on offense in the fifth. Rebecca Harvey got on base first after drawing a hit by pitch. Harvey then moved over to second after a fielder's choice and Lyndsey Seamon drove in R. Harvey after a one-out single to center field to push their lead to 2-1.

The Oilers would put one more on the board in the seventh inning to put their lead to two runs with a 3-1 advantage. R. Harvey doubled to left center then Fisher drew a walk to put runners one first and second with no gone. Seamon subbed in as a pinch hitter and delivered once more for the Oilers witha single through to left field to bring R. Harvey in. The defense remained strong to end the game with a 3-1 victory.

The offense for the Oilers that combined for eight hits were led by Lyndsey Seamon with a three hit game, driving in two runs. Rebecca Harvey had a two hit game including a double, along with hits by Fisher, Corona, and Carloline Turner.

In the circle, Megan Fisher went the complete game allowing one run on two hits, striking out five and allowing four walks.
