For the fourth consecutive year, PFX Athletics will be hosting Practice with the Pros, a softball camp where players actually practice in a 1:1 setting with professional softball players. The three-day camp takes place at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida (Legends Way Ballfields) over winter break. The dates for this year are December 27-29, 2019.

Practice with the Pros focuses on the relationships between the pros and the participants, all while learning new tips and tricks to enhance their game.

Practice with the Pros has had some of the TOP players in the game come out and participate in this event. Past clinicians include National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) names such as Kelly Kretchaman (NPF All-Star and 2016 Triple Crown Winner) and Megan Wiggins (NPF All-Star, homerun champion, and 2013 Player of the Year) as well as household names like Jessie Warren, Alex Powers, Bianka Bell, Jessica Burroughs (USSSA Pride), Amanda Chidester (Chicago Bandits), and Jade Rhodes (Cleveland Comets).

Not to be outdone by their professional counterparts, PFX Athletics also has been known to bring in Team USA members such as Kirsti Merritt and Sahvanna Jaquish. The list of impactful pro athletes that are brought in each year continues to grow and with the Olympics in 2020, you can expect to see more Olympians practicing alongside the pros in the coming years.

The camp has a great balance of softball instruction, mental preparation, 1:1 time with the Pros, and of course opportunities for the Pros to show off their skills. Each year camp ends with a HomeRun Derby where the Pros display their power to all the participants. Quite often, the pros hit the ball (literally) out of the park, including over the batting facility that stands outside of Legend Way’s five-field complex. It’s a sight to see.

Kiki Stokes, who graduated from Nebraska and currently plays for Scrapyard, has been a fan favorite over the years. Kiki has been part of Practice with the Pros from the start and is a huge reason for the success.

“This is such a cool opportunity for pro players to give back and teach the game. My favorite part is coming back year after year, and seeing how much better the kids have gotten and literally watching them develop each year. I've loved every bit of it.”

The best part about camp, according to both participants and clinicians, is the relationships that are formed. The pro players form a bond that lasts longer than the three-day camp. Angelo Demartino, who has sent both of his daughters to Practice with the Pros over the last three years, said the best part of camp is the engagement between the pros and participants. “Seeing the excitement on my daughters face when we go to a USSSA Pride game and she calls out the players name and they wave back and call her by name, is not something many kids can say happens to them. They remember her, and that is such a cool thing for a 9-year-old."

Did you just get chills? We did.

If you are looking for the best Christmas present to give your softballer, this is it. Build a bond with pro players, enhance your game, and make memories that will last a lifetime. Not to mention, spending time in beautiful, sunny Central Florida! Whether you are a beginner or been at it for a while, Practice with the Pros offers multiple opportunities for you to enjoy the game you love.
