After losing in the semifinals of the PGF 18U Premier championships last week, Corona Angels coach Marty Tyson brought five eighth-graders onto his squad for the PGF 14U Premier Nationals this week.

"I wanted to show them how we do it," Tyson said.

The Corona Angels went undefeated all week and made their eighth appearance as an organization in a PGF national championship game, beating Bill Schroll's Sorcerer, 9-2, in six innings via the mercy rule on Saturday at Deanna Manning Stadium in Irvine to win their second national title and first since UCLA-bound Megan Faraimo led them to the PGF 14U Premier championship in 2014 as an eighth-grader.

"It's amazing because after every tournament or friendly, he (Tyson) is always saying it doesn't really matter. All that matters is PGF," said winning pitcher Kylee Magee, who has committed to Arizona State. "And we pulled it out."

"A lot of people were saying that this year was our year," said Tennessee-committed shortstop Lair Beautae. "We had to watch their words and go out and be ourselves. It started from (last) September with all the hard work and then 'Hell Week' the week before. We knew we had to put all the work in to get to this game."

The Corona Angels were even putting in work all week during PGF Nationals with morning practices before their games.

"Corona Angels is a whole different organization," Magee said. "We go hard and we don't stop."

The Corona Angels seemed eager to prove a point and make a statement, jumping all over Sorcerer in the top of the first inning with five consecutive hits by Beautae, Mika Lee, Iowa State-commit Angelina Allen, Oregon-commit Paige Sinicki and Louisville-commit Korbe Otis to start the game.

Allen had an RBI single, Sinicki had an RBI double, Otis had a two-run single and the Corona Angels added an unearned run and an RBI double by Mikala Huskey for a six-hit inning to stake them to a 6-0 lead.

Sorcerer, which got knocked into the loser's bracket after an 8-3 loss to the Corona Angels on Friday morning, fought back with two runs in the bottom of the first as Olivia Silvestre scored from third on a wild pitch and Caroline Allman's RBI single to close the gap to 6-2.

Cal-commit Jordin King started in the circle for the Corona Angels but gave way to Arizona State-committed right-hander Kylee Magee, who got the final out of first inning. Magee ended up going 5.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits, a walk and striking out three to notch the victory.

Cal State Fullerton-commit Madison Sanchez added a two-run single in the top of the fifth and Paris Green drove in Otis with a groundout to third in the top of the sixth to help the Corona Angels get the run-rule win in six innings.

Allen and Otis finished with two hits apiece to lead the Corona Angels 12-hit attack.
