NORMAN — Oklahoma head softball coach Patty Gasso announced Thursday the addition of transfer pitcher Shannon Saile for the upcoming 2019 season. The right-hander will have two years of eligibility remaining when she joins the Sooners this fall.

A native of Land O’Lakes, Fla., Saile joins the Sooners after spending the first two seasons of her career at Florida International.

She earned All-Conference USA First Team accolades in both 2017 and 2018 and was named CUSA Freshman of the Year in 2017.

In 2018, Saile went 17-11 with a 1.93 ERA over 181.0 innings pitched, fanning 267 batters throughout the season. As a freshman, she was 19-11 and registered a 1.51 ERA in 208.1 frames of work while striking out 240.

“I chose Oklahoma because I want to grow mentally, physically and spiritually, and the amount of powerful women in softball that have come from this program speaks for itself,” Saile said. “I want to pursue my dreams of winning a national championship, and what better place to do that than the state it’s hosted in. I look forward to getting my diploma from the University of Oklahoma and bringing back hardware along with it.”

Saile attended Land O’ Lakes High School, earning NFCA High School All-America honors during her senior season. She was also named Tampa Bay Pitcher of the Year while garnering All-Region, All-State and All-Conference honors as a senior. Saile also received All-State recognition as a junior and All-Conference nods three total times.

Saile is the sixth newcomer for the 2019 season, joining a class of five incoming freshmen: Grace Green, Audrie LaValley, Grace Lyons, Sami Skelly and Brooke Vestal.
