STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team added one of the nation's premier transfers Monday, as former Texas A&M standout Samantha Show signed to play her final collegiate season in Stillwater.
Show, an incoming senior, was a two-way star both at the plate and in the circle for Texas A&M over the past three seasons. The East Bernard, Texas, native earned NFCA All-Region honors in all three of her campaigns with the Aggies, garnering first-team recognition in each of the past two seasons.
"I think that adding Samantha to our lineup and to our pitching rotation really solidifies us as a contender in our conference, and nationally as well," OSU head coach Kenny Gajewski said. "She has the potential to be a No. 1 arm and to hit in the middle of our lineup. There aren't a lot of kids out there like that. She also comes from a high-caliber school in Texas A&M and had a lot of success playing in the SEC over the past three years."
In 2018, Show appeared in 48 games as a hitter, batting .290 with four home runs, 25 RBI, four doubles and a triple. The right-hander also made 20 appearances in the circle, 18 of which she started, and compiled a 12-5 record to go with an impressive 2.24 ERA competing in the ultra-competitive Southeastern Conference. Show struck out 75 batters in 103.1 innings and held opposing batters to a .236 average during her junior campaign.
She tossed her first career no-hitter in a five-inning outing against Penn State on March 6 and recorded her first career seven-inning shutout with a gem against Auburn on April 28. Show also logged a season-best nine strikeouts against Ole Miss on March 10. She leaves College Station ranked 10th in Texas A&M history with 366 career strikeouts.
Show's career numbers are similarly impressive to her 2018 totals, as she holds a 2.88 ERA in 442.1 career innings pitched, while also amassing 56 wins and 42 complete games, 16 of which were shutouts. She also holds a .283 career batting average, and 47 of her 101 hits have resulted in extra bases. Twenty-three of those extra-base knocks were home runs.
"She's a No. 1 arm and a 3-4-5 hitter in the lineup, and whenever you have that it creates some unique lineup possibilities," Gajewski said. "As we try to replace Vanessa (Shippy) and our other seniors, this is another kid that we can add to the puzzle and plug into the lineup. We're very excited to have her at Oklahoma State and we're looking forward to her joining our team."
