Growing up, we don’t realize how much our parents sacrifice to help us reach our biggest goals and dreams. My mom sacrificed so much of her own life to make sure her daughters could live the life we dreamt of, and I am so grateful for everything. There were so many times that I wanted to give up, so many times I didn’t feel good enough, and so many times I felt all of my worth came from my performance on the field. My mom has always been there to remind me that who I am off the field is just as important as I am on the field, and she has always been a smiley face in any pressure/adversity I face. Thanks so much, Mom, and Happy Mother’s Day. I love you!
Dear Mama,
Your hair braiding skills were at level 10. I could always count on you for solid double Dutch braids on game day.
You and dad showed me the true meaning of family and unconditional love. One of the coolest things about our relationship is that we don’t have to talk about softball. We can hang out and talk about pit bulls and family, or I can teach you about technology.
Remember when I called you from FaceTime messenger and we used the face filters? You could not stop laughing. It made me laugh hysterically. I know sometimes you think it’s a pain for me to teach you about technology. It isn’t. I don’t mind.
You’re one of my best friends and my No. 1 cheerleader. I love you so much. To be your daughter is truly a blessing. I can’t wait to have a dance party with you.
With love,
Your Baby Girl, Chez

I have started and restarted this paragraph over and over. On the surface, it should be easy to recount what exactly my mom has meant to me and to my softball career, but the reality is that her love, support and unwavering commitment to her children and husband is indescribable.
My favorite softball moment with my mom happened during my sophomore year of college when I had the biggest hit of my career, a walk-off home run in the 10th inning to beat UCLA. My mom took the trip to Tucson, AZ, solo the spring weekend of 2013, something my dad still kicks himself over.
I remember leaving the field that evening both exhausted by the long, emotional game, and in true Wilson fashion, we headed straight to Wendy’s. We were starving and couldn’t fathom the thought of waiting for food at a sit-down restaurant. The meal we shared that night stands out more than the hit. We sat and chatted, for hours, minutes, I’m not really sure anymore. She is and always has been the perfect person for a post-game chat, no matter the outcome of the game or how I did. Somehow, she always knows what to say or not say to remind me that I am loved and supported.
I am lucky to have a mom who is strong, compassionate, understanding, and devoted. More importantly, I am fortunate to have a mom who values the hard work and dedication it takes to become an elite athlete but always reminded me of the bigger picture and balance.
Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms out there! And a massive happy Mother’s Day to my mama—may your day be filled with beer, chicken wings, and love. You are appreciated.

My mom is the unsung hero when it comes to my softball career. From making amazing game-day breakfasts to sending me inspiring quotes before each game, it may seem like little things but it all adds up to her making sure I feel loved and am in the right mindset.
She has no idea of her worth when I can pick out her voice in the stands. Her voice alone makes me feel like I can move mountains and accomplish anything the game has to throw at me. I am blessed that after every game I am able to go home to someone who is proud of me no matter the outcome. Happy Mothers Day to my rock, best friend, and the best mom I could ask for.
