Shawn Rychcik Will Not Return As NC State Softball Head Coach
Shawn Rychcik will not return as North Carolina State softball head coach after six seasons.
The North Carolina State softball program is on the hunt for a new head coach for the 2019 season.
Shawn Rychcik will not return as NC State's coach after guiding the Wolfpack for the past six seasons, the school announced on Wednesday.
Rychcik completes his tenure in Raleigh, NC, with a 173-162-1 overall record and a 53-59 mark in ACC play. NC State finished its 2018 regular season on Sunday at 23-31, with a 5-18 record in ACC play.
"Although my time here did not end how I hoped, I am very grateful for the opportunity to coach at NC State," Rychcik said in a statement. "I am proud of our ACC championship, NCAA Super Regional appearance and am thankful to all the student-athletes, coaches, and staff I had the opportunity to work with."
NC State Director of Athletics Debbie Yow added: "We appreciate all of Shawn's contributions over the past six seasons leading NC State softball. We wish Shawn and his family all the best in their future endeavors."
Hired in July 2012, Rychcik guided the Wolfpack to the 2013 ACC tournament title, just the second in program history. Two years later, NC State enjoyed its finest season in program history, compiling a 38-22 mark en route to its first NCAA Super Regional appearance.
Over the past three years, however, NC State has gone a combined 64-102 overall and 21-50 in ACC play.
The school is beginning a national coaching search immediately, led by sport administrator and Assistant Athletics Director Georgia Brown.
