College Softball Weekly Recap: SEC Marathon, Upsets, & Pac-12 Perfection
LSU and Ole Miss' epic 19-inning marathon and Gabbie Plain's perfect game headline this week's college weekly recap.
By Lincoln Shryack
There was a lot of entertaining softball over the weekend, with upsets and one epic marathon battle among the prominent results. Let’s get to the best action from the college ranks, ya’ll.
Gabbie Plain throws the seventh perfect game in Washington history
Super frosh Gabbie Plain became just the second Huskies freshman to toss a perfect game, as top-ranked UW easily dispatched Utah 12-0 on Saturday in Seattle. Plain excelled by limiting hard contact, recording just five strikeouts yet allowing only two balls to reach the outfield.

#6 Florida upset by in-state rival Central Florida
The unranked Knights hadn’t beaten the mighty Gators in nearly six years entering their contest last Wednesday, but a one-hit performance from sophomore Alea White helped to end that streak as UCF beat sixth-ranked Florida 1-0.

For the Gators, it was their second loss of the season to an unranked team from the Sunshine State. Florida lost to Florida International 5-0 on March 28.
#12 LSU topples Ole Miss in 19-inning marathon game
It took four hours and 36 minutes for LSU to beat Ole Miss in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Friday, as the Tigers won 2-1 in an epic 19-inning contest. Sophomore Amanda Doyle played the hero when her blooper found grass and scored Taryn Antoine from second in the longest game in both schools’ history. Nineteen innings tied the longest in SEC history, matching the Alabama and Arkansas affair from 1999.

There were obviously some crazy stats from this one, but my favorite was that LSU went nine innings—from the 10th to the 19th—without recording a hit, and yet still ended up winning the game. Another mind-numbing fact that will go down in SEC lore is that neither team used a relief pitcher. Tigers starter Allie Walljasper got the win by allowing just seven hits over a full 19 innings, while Kaitlin Lee for Ole Miss was nearly as good as she went 18 2/3 while allowing just eight hits. Unfortunately, somebody had to take the loss and it went to Lee despite her incredible performance.
Of course, a game this long had some defensive heroics.

North Texas head coach Tracey Kee wins 800th game
The Mean Green of North Texas swept Mississippi Valley in a doubleheader on Sunday in Itta Bena, Mississippi, giving head coach Tracey Kee her 800th career win. With the victory, Kee became the 32nd active coach to hit the milestone.

Kee is in just her fifth season at North Texas, as the majority of her victories came while leading her alma mater, East Carolina, for 16 seasons. Kee compiled a 684-362 as head coach at ECU.
Web gems galore
There were so many epic grabs over the weekend that I had to give them their own subheading.

#4 Georgia falls to Mizzou in first unranked loss of the season
The Bulldogs took the series by crushing Mizzou 7-2 on Sunday in Athens, Georgia, but the Tigers did manage to win 5-1 on Saturday to hand the home team its first loss to an unranked opponent in 2018.

Mizzou is just the second team to beat Georgia in Athens this season.
#1 Oklahoma wins 24th straight
The Sooners will have a place in this recap article every week as long as they keep winning (and probably when/if they eventually lose). The two-time defending champs continue to pound their competition, and their 24-game win streak is the longest in the nation. Oklahoma swept a doubleheader against Iowa State on Sunday and has now won 46 consecutive Big 12 series.
