Rising Star: 2021 Northwestern Commit Lauren Sciborski Can Catch & Sing
What began as a recreational game of catch transformed into a life-changing journey into competitive softball for Lauren Sciborski. From South Lyon, Michigan, Sciborski was somehow drawn to the softball field.
She started playing every position on the diamond and decided to try catching. The moment she armored up in her catcher's gear, she fell in love.
Michigan Finesse coach Donnie Dreher had a significant influence on Sciborski's athletic development.
"When I was little, about 10, he saw it in me and kept pushing me to go harder and keep working at it. It's really cool because I get to play for him now," Sciborski said. "He's intense but he is awesome. He finds the little things that we can always improve on. At the end of the day, he's a really positive person to be around."
Under his leadership and guidance, Sciborski bursted on the recruiting scene during 13U.
"It was always my dream to go on to play in college no matter if it was DII or MAAC anything. It was my goal to get there and when I reached that stage it was kind of overwhelming," Sciborki said.
She took unofficial visits to Oklahoma, Northwestern, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Ohio State before choosing the Wildcats.
"It's been awesome," she said. "In the beginning, it was kind of overwhelming. My first visit was to Oklahoma. It was a really cool experience. I'm so happy with everything and with the college coaches on how respectful they are. Having them give me the opportunity to pursue my dream, it's absolutely amazing."

What are the most important things you look for in a school and in a program?
Definitely academics, because not only are you going to school for softball but you're preparing yourself for your life. So that's a huge thing for me. Then also the relationship with the coaches is a big part for me. I need to know that they're going to push me every day and be there.
