We continue our 2020 Hot 100 identifying top talent in the class of 2020. We will reveal the Hot 100 prospects over the next two weeks, spotlighting 10 or more outstanding players each day on the way through our countdown from 100 to No. 1.
This list is an updated version of our initial 2020 Hot 100 rankings and over 40 percent of the players are new additions!
We'll announce the top 10 of the class on Friday, September 29, and shortly after will profile the No. 1 player and then list the "next in" classes comprising recruits 101-200, 201-300, 301-400, and 401-500 as well as which colleges have done the best so far in recruiting this outstanding group of players!
FloSoftball has ranked the Hot 100 beginning with the 2014 class and has done every grad year since including 2015, '16, '17, '18, '19, '20 (the first list exactly a year ago), and '21. We've also updated most of those years several times.
These 2020 honorees were chosen based on input and feedback from college and club coaches as well as our own FloSoftball event and in-person observations.
Criteria for choosing and ranking the players includes performances at the club and high school levels and projecting how they will play at the collegiate level.
70 | Avery Hobson, OF | DeMarini Aces (uncommitted)
Hobson is a prototypical leadoff hitter who can flat-out fly. Her 2.7 speed down the line puts immense pressure on the defense which is a huge reason why she led the Aces in batting this past summer with a .432 average and 93 stolen bases. Hobson did the same for her Belton High School team, boasting a .547 average. When in the outfield the speedster can cover a tremendous amount of ground and her strong arm keeps runners honest on base. With offers coming out of the Big 12, SEC, and Big Ten, Hobson hopes to make her commitment after the fall.
69 | Allison Smith, P/1B | Ohio Lasers Green (Ohio State)
Smith is a 5-foot-10 power pitcher who consistently throws in the mid 60s. Last summer with the Ohio Lasers, the right hander went 29-7 with a 1.48 ERA and 233 Ks. As a Champion High School freshman, Smith contributed seven wins with a 0.70 ERA and 81 Ks. Even more impressive than that was her performance at the plate, batting .513 overall and setting records in both HRs (18) and RBIs (64) leading her team to the D3 Ohio State Championship and earning first team All-Northeast Ohio honors. Smith is committed to Ohio State.
68 | Peyton Toto, SS | LTG Lions (Cal State Fullerton)
Toto is a very mature and versatile athlete with an extremely high softball IQ. Some believe she is just beginning to scratch the surface of her potential but Peyton continues to progress at a very steady pace. She is very smooth with good hands and a strong arm at shortstop. At the plate she has a quick stick but the patience, power, and control to hit the ball well to all fields. Toto entertained interest from several big name colleges before deciding on Cal State Fullerton.
68 | Peyton Bannon, SS | Illinois Chill (uncommitted)
Bannon is an exceptional defensive shortstop who makes the difficult plays look easy with her base-to-base range and strong arm. Her defense might be the best of her game right now, but at the plate she has the ability to drop a bunt or drive the ball into the gaps making it difficult to defend against. To add to her threat at the plate, her speed and instincts help her make game-changing decisions on the base paths. Bannon finished her freshman year at Richmond-Burton High School with a .421 batting average and 19 RBIs. Bannon has received interest out of Power Five conference programs but is taking her time with the process.
67 | Macy Montgomery, P | Indiana Magic Gold (uncommitted)
Montgomery is a fearless competitor in the circle and her excitement for the game is contagious. Last season Macy went 34-6 with 291 Ks, leading Indiana Magic through a successful summer including a third-place finish at PGF Premier Nationals. As a freshman at Bellmont High School, Montgomery tossed 15 wins, including a perfect game, with a total of 225 Ks and a 0.44 ERA all while putting up a .554 batting average at the plate. This versatility on the field has sparked interest out of the Big Ten, SEC, and MAC conferences.
66 | Aslinn Spradlin, MIF | Georgia Impact - Dingler (Georgia State)
Spradlin is a phenomenal lead-off hitter who has the ability to change the tempo of an entire game with both her stick and her defense. She has great range at shortstop but spent much of her freshman season at Carrolton High School in the circle pitching 143 innings with 103 Ks. At the plate she batted an impressive .483 with 25 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. Her stellar performances on both sides of the field help take her team to a region championship while individually earning region 7-5A pitcher of the year, region 7-5A first team, 5A all-state first team, and all-area co-newcomer of the year. Spradlin is committed to Georgia State.
65 | Leah Powell, P/3B | Mizuno Dirt Dawgs (South Carolina)
Powell is a 6-foot power pitcher who throws the ball hard but has the ability to mix speeds and keep hitters off balance with her movement. The type of pitcher that rises to the occasion, Powell gave up only one earned run while facing the best hitters in the nation at PGF Nationals. As a freshman at Evans High School, Leah finished the season going 7-2 with a 0.84 ERA. She can also do damage at the plate, hitting .324 with 25 RBIs helping take her high school team to the regional championship. The Minnesota-to-Georgia transplant has committed to play for South Carolina.
65 | Payden Bordeau, C | Firecrackers - Sewell (Georgia)
Bordeau, a UGA commit, is an ideal power hitting catcher. Bordeau posted a .497 batting average with 11 home runs in the spring/summer season while missing three months due to injury and Florida school ball. Bordeau is a pitcher's catcher who steals strikes while not allowing runners to steal bases. Bordeau only allowed two runners to steal on her all year and allowed no one to steal during Colorado Sparkler and PGF nationals. According to Rachel Lawson at UK, Bordeau "frames and receives better than anyone she has seen," and has a legit pop time in the 1.83 range. Bordeau started varsity as a freshman and received a lot of interest from several SEC, ACC, Big 10, and Big 12 schools before choosing UGA. Bordeau is very disciplined at the player where she works the count waiting on her pitch to the point that she drew 21 BB's in a three month shortened season. Bordeau is very smart and gives confidence to her pitchers, knowing that she will get balls off the plate called as strikes and balls in the dirt will not get by so pitchers are confident throwing any pitch with Bordeau catching. As a hitter, it may be best to walk her because this Dawg WILL bite if you get close!
64 | Cassie Camou, SS/P | Firecrackers - Brashear (uncommitted)
Camou brings tons of power to the 3-4-5 spot with tremendous bat speed. Coach Brashear compared the compact and stocky Camou to Michigan-commit Julia Jimenez. She comes with "street-smarts" on the field able to pick up on pitcher/catcher sequence on her own. She helped lead Lakewood High School to another Moore League Championship in the circle. But you can also see Camou showcasing her athleticism at shortstop and third. She's received offers from Pac-12 and SEC schools.
63 | Estelle Czech, P/OF | Beverly Bandits - Tyrrell (Pitt)
Czech is best described as "crafty" with her pitches pounding the strike to both righties and lefties. Coming back from injury, Czech has been fierce and incredibly efficient in the circle. Not only fierce in the circle, Czech is a threat at the plate with gap to gap power the lefty has worked her way to the No. 4 spot in the lineup. Tyrell told FloSoftball, "I appreciate those players that have that competitive edge. The way she attacks the position she plays is mature. It stands out. I appreciate the versatility."
T-62 | Kaylin Kinney, P | Nebraska Gold (Nebraska)
Standing nearly 6-foot, Kinney is a power pitcher who hits 65 consistently and also bats cleanup. For her high Cedar Rapids high school team this year, she batted .482 with 14 home runs and 58 RBI. In 16 starts in the circle, she went 14-2 with 128 Ks and a .68 era. With stats like that, it's obvious that she stays cool, calm and composed in tough situations, getting the job done one pitch and hit at a time. She gave her commitment to coach Revelle over Minnesota and Iowa State earlier this year.
T-62 | Jordan McClain, SS | Texas Bombers ETX (Baylor)
McClain may very well be the fastest player in the state of Texas with a home-to-first time of 2.59. The shortstop/switch hitter blasted eight home runs this year from the right side and carried a .700 OBP from the left side. She is also 100 percent on stolen base attempts, and it's no surprise that she is extremely smooth at shortstop with the kind of athleticism she boasts. McClain committed to Baylor in August 2017.
61 | Marlene Friedman, SS | Explosion - Flores 16U (uncommitted)
Friedman is a big, strong shortstop with an excellent arm and strong defensive skills. She can make plays deep in the hole that other shortstops can't and at the plate she is a gap hitter who can also go deep at any time. Coaches rave about her great work ethic and desire to keep improving her game and help her team win. Friedman is getting heavy looks from top Pac-12 and SEC schools.
