What To Watch For At The European Championship
Italy (6-0)
Why: Italy, the reigning 2015 European Champions return to defend their title. Like the Netherlands, Italy is deep with talent and versatility. Four pitchers make up their bullpen that includes Ilaria Cacciamani, Greta Cecchetti, Mara Papucci, and Alice Ronchetti. The Italians have a young and aggressive team with standouts Erika Piancastelli (McNeese), Mariel Bertossi (Montevallo) and Marta Gasparotto (Chipola) on offense. Italy has outscored their opponents 53-8.Netherlands (7-0)
Why: The Netherlands have a perfect record of 7-0 outscoring their opponents 71-2. They are poised to make a serious run at the European Championship with the strongest pitching staff and offense in the tournament. Former Cal Bear and current NPF Scrap Yard Dawg Britt Vonk leads the way on offense. Expect to see pitcher Ilona Andringa (Embry-Riddle College) in the mix in the circle.Great Britain (7-0)
Why: The Brits are off to a strong start at the European Championship. They are also undefeated going into Thursday. Great Britain is stacked with young talent with 10 players who also compete in the states. Expect to see incoming USF freshman Georgina Corrick on mound who will undoubtedly be adding to her strike out totals. Brittain's offense is built with speed and power. Towson's Kendyl Scott leads off with home run power and base stealing abilities. Great Britain has outscored opponents 68-6.Czech Republic (6-0)
Why: Don't sleep on the Czech Republic who are also undefeated going into Thursday. Expect Eva Rendlová to hold down the cleanup spot. She is a veteran and a dangerous hitter. In the circle, don't be surprised to see Veronika Pecková who was scheduled to start against Russia before the rainout. The Czechs have a great mix of youth and experience.FloSoftball will provide live event coverage, exclusive interviews, recaps, highlight videos and behind the scenes access to viewers in North America, South America and Asia.
