Club Spotlight: Meet Georgia Impact Langston
Club Spotlight: Meet Georgia Impact Langston
FloSoftball spotlights Georgia Impact Langston, one of the top teams in the 12U division.
Coach Michael Langston is excited about this 12U group who will no doubt make the FAB 50 list in July. Langston reveals the history of the Impact program, their main mission as an organization, and what each player brings to the team.
When did the team/program start and how/why did it come to be? The core of this team has been together since they were eights years old. Over the years, we have added many hard working and talented young ladies that have a common goal of competing at the highest level.
Where are you based? Where do your athletes come from (all locally, some out of state?) We are based out of Georgia and currently have players from Georgia (7), Tennessee (2), Virginia (1) and Florida (1).
What was the purpose of creating the team (showcase players, win titles, develop skills, etc.)? This team was put together to help our girls achieve their goals of reaching the college level. We have created a team culture based on competition. When our girls reach the next level, they will not back down from the challenge of competing for playing time.
What have been some of your successes in terms of winning or placing at events? 2014 ASA National 17th, 2014 USFA World Series 7th, 2015 Turf Wars Runner Up, 2015 OKC Challenge 3rd, 2015 PGF Nationals 3rd. The last four years our record was 187-47-2 while seeking out the best competition we can find. We have played in 10 states during that time frame and have played teams from all over the country.
What makes the organization unique? Without a question the Georgia Impact Organization is where we are because of the leadership from Will Tomasello and Rick Jeffrey's. The time, energy and effort they put in is unmatched. They provide guidance and assistance to our staff throughout the entire process. The many teams and coaches ahead of us have built a top level organization and our staff is working to maintain those expectations.
What's your softball background and how did you get to the point of leading the team? I played Minor League Baseball for several years, so my original background was in baseball. Once I found out my daughter enjoyed the game as much as she did, I did what most coaches do and started trying to learn as much about the game of softball as I could. In order to continue to improve our team, we as a staff must continue to evolve and learn.
How many teams are there in the organization overall? 15
Has there been a key moment or defining experience in the team's history? Our best team finish was 3rd at PGF in 2015. While we finished 3rd and that was a great accomplishment, our girls left the park hungry and motivated and were not satisfied. Those girls remember that feeling and are determined to compete for a PGF Championship again this year.
What is your primary focus or goal with this team? We have an ultimate goal of all our players finding the right fit at the college level. We are also committed to building a team that is competitive across the country.
What do you think are the strengths of the team? I believe we have very strong pitching and are one of the top defensive teams in the country.
If there is one thing you would say that separates you from other club programs, what would it be? The Impact organization has a reputation of putting hard-nosed, top notch teams on the field. Win, Lose or draw you will know you have battled when we step on the field.
Taylor Malvin #22 - Malvins is a lefty slapper that has a lot of speed. She has good range in the outfield with a pretty strong arm.
Caydra Parker #27 - Parker is a power hitting lefty that is capable of hitting line drives to any gap. She also has the arm to throw out runners from deep in the outfield trying to tag up!
Aspen Calloway #10 - Calloway is power hitting righty that can hit the ball a long way. She is extremely flexible at first base and she can pick balls out of the dirt with the best of them.
Mia Williams #00 - Williams is a power hitter that has deceptive speed. She is a true utility that can play just about anywhere on the field.
Brionna Condon #2 - Condon is very good middle in fielder that can also play on the corner. She's an aggressive player that has a solid glove and very strong arm.
Avery Barton #30 - Barton is a raw talent who possesses a cannon for an arm and very good speed. She has power potential to all fields.
Alana Crenshaw # - Crenshaw is fundamentally sound catcher with a strong arm and quick release. She possesses a strong bat.
Emma Langston #32 - Langston is a very strong pitcher that works anywhere from 55-61. She has the stamina to throw a lot of pitches if needed. Strong fast, curve, screw, and drop ball.
Kirsten Fleet #7 - Fleet is a strong power pitcher that throws 56-62 mph. She throws a very strong fast, curve, & drop ball.
Allie Farrow #9 - Farrow is a strong catcher with a strong arm. She has the ability to throw runners out from her knees.
Jadyn Laneaux #13 - Laneaux is a fluid athlete who has speed and great bat control. She has the ability to play middle infield or any outfield spot. Power will come as she grows into her body.
