Signing Day Spotlight: Kiara Kennedy Signs With Utah Valley University
Kiara Kennedy has had a rollercoaster of a ride recruiting. In 2015, she was committed to Purdue University. But with the recent coaching change, Kennedy decided to go in a different direction athletically and academically. This utility player landed at Utah Valley University and is making her commitment official on April 12, 2017.
Did you ever think this day--signing with your dream school--would come! Yes, I did because I sacrificed and put in a lot of hard work throughout the years.
Where will you be signing your Letter of Intent this week? In the auditorium at Desert Vista High in Phoenix, Arizona
Will it be a big occasion or more low-key? As far as the school they are more low key, but it is a huge occasion with my family!
Will you do anything to celebrate the big day? Since signing is early in the morning I will be going to breakfast with my family, and I plan on ordering more gear.
What date did you actually commit and how long ago was it? January 16, 2017
What highlight stands out to you about the recruiting process? The recruiting process is a combination of highs and lows. It's like riding a rollercoaster. Things seem like they're going your way then they can quickly turn scary once your at your highest peak in the process. Then you drop back down and you realize how much fun you actually had. Now that the ride is over you appreciate how blessed you really are.
What was the "aha" moment when you knew the program was the right one for you? When I found out that the campus wasn't overwhelming. I prefer a smaller campus lifestyle. Coach Hubbard and Coach Jachim had good chemistry with each other and they felt like a perfect fit for style of play.
What will signing with your dream school mean to you personally and to those who've been part of your success (family, coaches, teammates, etc.)? It will mean that all of my hard work has paid off. I feel blessed and I appreciate those that have helped me become a better person while learning life lessons along the way.
How much gear/product do you have of your future school? I have just enough to be satisfied and show my school pride.
What's next for you and your softball plans? I want to major in either physical therapy or be a sports nutritionist and own my own business. As for softball I want to help my team have the mindset to make other teams fear having to play Utah Valley University. My goal is also to have my number retired.
