NDSU upsets Ole Miss in a pitcher's duel and Utah State undefeated at Easton Invitational.
North Dakota State Gets First Win Against Ole Miss
NDSU's pitcher Jacquelyn Sertic can spin the ball and make it dance. Sertic shut out Ole Miss only allowing one hit with 11 strikeouts to get the win.After two losses, the Bison came roaring back with fuel and fire in the seventh. California native Zoe Stavrou ignited the offense with a single up the middle.
Pinch runner Anna Watson ran for Stavrou advancing to second on a sac bunt by Bre Beatty.
Julia Luciana reached base on a dropped pop fly ball by second baseman Kaylee Horton allowing Watson to advance to third.
Vanessa Anderson came up clutch with a bloop single to center field to put the Bison on the board 1-0.
The Rebels offense did not have an answer for Sertic who retired the side.
Prior to the NDSU loss, Ole Miss downed Pacific 9-0 shut out in five innings.
Utah State Remains Undefeated
The Aggies are on a roll at the Easton Invitational.Utah State continued their win streak in a back and forth battle against the LMU Lions. The Aggies went up 5-0 by the third inning.
But the Lions answered back in the fourth closing in with four runs. Utah State put three more runs on the board in the fifth on two hits.
Utah State kept the lead to win 9-5.
The real test would be the night cap match up against Cal State Fullerton. Arizona transfer Trisha Parks got the much anticipated start for the Titans in circle.
Inning one, Park struggled with control early with walks and wild pitches. Amanda Sheets got the offense going with a bunt single and later advanced on a wild pitch.
Victoria Saucedo hit a sharp line drive over shortstop Shianne Brannan for a single while Sheets advance to third. Paxton Provost walked to load the bases for Brina Buttacavoli.
Parks hits Buttacavoli to put the Aggies up 1-0. Two more walks were issued bringing the score to 3-0 Aggies.
The Aggies took advantage going up on the Titans 3-0.
In the bottom of the third, the Titans went on a two-out rally when Lexi Gonzales scored Vandiver on a fielder's choice.
Zoe Richards stepped up with an RBI single bringing the score to 3-2 Aggies.
Sarina Jaramillo and Jazmin Clarke clutched up with RBI triples with runners on to put the game out of reach.
Pitcher Kelli White would scatter eight hits to seal the win for the Aggies 7-3.
