Alexis Holloway, No. 2 Hot 100 2017 pitcher signs to Notre Dame
Alexis Holloway, the No.2 2017 Hot 100 pitcher was destined for Notre Dame since she was eight. Holloway was the one-two punch for the Beverly Bandits alongside No.1 Hot 100 pitcher Miranda Elish. Indiana's best stays in her home state and tells FloSoftball about her journey to signing day.
Did you ever think this day--signing with your dream school--would come? Honestly, a lot of people have said it seems to have gone by so fast but I feels like I have been committed forever! It has been a long three years and I can't wait to sign this Wednesday.
Where will you be signing your Letter of Intent this week? I will be signing my letter at my high school (Crown Point) with two other softball players. There are also many other athletes in my class who will be signing this week and later this year! So it will definitely be an exciting week at Crown Point High School!
Will it be a big occasion or more low-key? Well if it was up to me it would have been really small, quiet, with not too much production, but my family is really excited and making a big deal of it. So, it has turned into a big occasion which was against my better judgement, but it will also be something that I will always remember so that's cool!
Will you do anything to celebrate the big day? We are going out to pizza with family and friends after I sign, but before that I have to go to school, workouts and probably do some homework! So nothing too crazy
What date did you actually commit and how long ago was it? I committed my freshman year actually. It feels like a lifetime ago although I remember it like it was yesterday! It was August 31st, 2013 which was less than a week after I entered high school. I don't think any of my freshman year teachers believed me until it came out in the local papers a few days later!
What highlight stands out to you about the recruiting process? The whole recruiting process was a whirlwind. That part went by really fast and I was nervous the whole time and forgot to enjoy it. So for anyone out there that is currently in the recruiting process or still working towards it, make sure to enjoy it because it moves really really quickly! I guess the highlight for me was knowing that my hard work was paying off and I actually had a chance to play collegiate softball.
What was the "aha" moment when you knew the program was the right one for you? That is actually a pretty funny and kind of a long story. The short answer is when I was 8. The long answer is that I only live an hour and fifteen minutes from the University, so I went to a lot of camps there when I was younger. I went to my first camp when I was eight and on the way home I told my dad that "that's where I am going to school. Oh, and I am going to play softball there too". So I guess my younger self was pretty good at making decisions! But we have been big Notre Dame fans my whole life and that campus has always felt like home. On my visit I just knew that was where I was supposed to be.
What will signing with your dream school mean to you personally and to those who've been part of your success (family, coaches, teammates, etc.)? It is going to be surreal, just like committing was in the first place. It was my dream school from the very beginning so it becoming a reality is just mindblowing. My family will and is super excited as well because we have all been fans for a long time, but I am the first one to actually attend the University! So, they might rival myself on an excitement scale! I have been having a lot of moments lately where I am like 'Holy cow, I am going to be a freshman at The University of Notre Dame next fall'. Not a bad feeling to have, might I add.
How much gear/product do you have of your future school? Let's just say there is definitely less than five times a year that none of my family (Me, Dad, Mom, sister) is wearing any Notre Dame gear and I know two of those time are when we go to church for Easter or Christmas! We have a lot of stuff from the pre Under Armour era because we have been collecting for so long!
What's next for you and your softball plans? The top priority is to obviously finish school and graduate in the spring because school always comes first, but I am not concerned about that one. Next is to finish off my high school career on a positive note. We have a great group and I am looking forward to that season. But, I am really looking forward to a great summer ball season with the Beverly Bandits. Our travel team this year is so much fun, there is so much great chemistry, and we are ready to compete at all of the big tournaments this summer! It is a great way to finish out my travel career! Then I will be off to Notre Dame in the fall, so I just really want to enjoy every minute of this last year!!!
