Last Update:
Wes died in Colorado approximately 1:30 p.m on Saturday July 2, 2016. He and his daughter Brooke/BAM were alumni of SMGSA (Sierra Madre Girls Softball) in the San Gabriel Valley of So Cal, No Mercy Fastpitch, Monrovia High School Softball, and of course American Pastime 18 Gold. Wes and I served on the SMGSA board together, coached many an all-star team together and were friends for more than 14 years. I will say, he died doing one thing he LOVED...and that was THIS GAME. Thank you for all the prayers of support and financial donations for his family during this time. We here, the old-timers of SMGSA, are in absolute and utter shock about Wes' untimely, and yet-unexplained death. Our hearts are broken from the bottom of our core. He was an exceptional man and father, ALWAYS ALWAYS willing to help someone out. RIP Wesley...we will be celebrating YOU tomorrow on YOUR holiday...July 4th. We LOVE YOU! Have a beer with Ken please!

Wesley Mann, assistant coach for American Pastime went into cardiac arrest on Wednesday around 5:45 pm during the TCS Sparkler Fireworks tournament. Coach Wes is 42. He spent the last four years as scorekeeper but asked Coach Smiley if he could coach this year.
The team went to lunch at Cracker Barrel and were on their way back to Christopher Fields. As he gets out of the van, he stands up grabs the door and complains of dizziness. Wes falls backwards into the flower beds.
Rosa, the team administrator screams alarming a nearby off duty serviceman. The good samaritan rushes to Wes and immediately starts CPR. 10-15 minutes pass as the ambulance tries to find their exact location.
American Pastime Gold Head Coach, Dewaine Smiley is notified by a team mom, “Wes is down. We gotta go.” Smiley didn’t realize the urgency behind those words. They rush to Wes’s side.
Later in the day, they find out that the medical team was able to salvage a heartbeat and Wes’ conditions were improving.
Friday morning Smiley gets the call that Wes’ health is declining.
Smiley “Right now it’s just minute to minute and we’re just waiting for the phone call that, yes he made the turn or whatever else could happen.”
“At this point we’re playing in his honor,” Smiley added. The players wrote his name on their arm.
Wes’ wife, Vicky Mann and daughter Brooke Mann flew in Thursday to be by his side.
Brooke Mann completed her freshmen year at the University of Wisconsin.
To help cover the medical expenses, the players have started a gofundme page to help the family.
