Farm life has only strengthened Gabi's blue-collar work ethic on the softball field.

She started playing tee ball and eventually transitioned to travel ball at the age of 10. Both of her parents, Amy and David Deters, were catchers—naturally, Gabi fell in love with catching.

Gabi credits Megan Christopher, former Missouri catcher and Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, for helping develop her catching skills.

In eighth grade, she started attracting the attention of college coaches. After joining the Chaos and going to Orlando for the Diamond 9 Sun Classic Fall Showcase, Division I coaches have shown more interest.

nullShe’s taken unofficial visits to top-15 programs, such as Michigan and Missouri.

“It’s really pretty up there (Michigan). I really like Coach Hutch and Coach Bonnie. I enjoyed watching the team practice.”

On her unofficial visit to Mizzou, Gabi said, “I really liked their campus. I got to see their plans for their new facility so I got to see where the program is going.”

For Gabi, distance is not a factor. She wants to find the right fit.

What do you like most about softball? Getting to know different people. I’ve met friends on Chaos that I wouldn’t have met if it I wasn’t playing softball.

nullWhat is your favorite softball memory? When I was younger, I played for 12U Prospects, and we were at Nationals. I was on third, and my teammate hit the ball, and I ran home. Everyone thought I was going to give up, but I jumped over the catcher and was safe.

What is your favorite quote or motto? Today, I will do what others won’t, so tomorrow, I can do what others can’t.

If you spend a weekend anywhere, what would you do and where would you go? The Women’s College World Series.

What’s something few people know about you? I show pigs and live on a farm. I play basketball.

Who’s your favorite softball player? Megan Christopher. She was a catcher and I’m a catcher. I wanted to be just like her.

What’s one thing you can’t live without? A softball. I’m always playing, so I barely put it down.

Do you have any softball superstitions? Yes. I always have to wear eye black. I cannot play without it. Even if it’s completely dark outside and we’re playing at 9 o’clock at night, I still have to have eye black on.

Best advice you’ve ever been given? Keep it simple. Don’t overthink it.

What’s your favorite place you’ve traveled? Florida, because I had never been there before and it was the first time I have been on a plane.

What’s the last song you listened to? "My House," by FloRida.

Do you have any nicknames? My teammates call me “Gabs.”

If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would it be? Stephen Curry.

Describe yourself in one word on the field and off the field. On the field: Competitive. Off the field: Fun.
