In what can only be described as the upset of the year so far, the Central Michigan Chippewas ruined the victory party Arizona was having after beating LSU on day 1 at Mary Nutter.

The Chippewas' pitcher Rachael Knapp was undoubtedly the MVP of the game, holding the Wildcats to only four hits and fanning 12 while allowing only two walks.

Central Michigan's offense fired on all cylinders, with 10 hits spread between seven hitters. Chippewa second baseman Chelsea DeLamielleure jacked a home run in the game and senior shortstop CarolAnn Sexauer paced the offense with two RBIs.

CMU coach Margo Jonker expressed confidence in her team following the historic win. "I think (the win over Arizona) shows that we can play with and beat almost anybody in the country when we're playing our best, and we can do the opposite if we're playing a poor game. In my mind, we have the players in place that when we're on, we have a very good team. I really think all the way through the lineup that we're very solid when we're playing our game."

2. Cal Poly Blanks Arizona 2-0

Arizona's offense struggled again on the last day, but this time against Cal Poly. Junior pitcher Sierra Hyland tossed a four-hitter against the Wildcats, tallying nine strikes and only two walks on the day.

Hyland helped her own cause on offense, batting in one of the Mustang's two runs. Senior Breana West blasted a solo shot for Cal Poly's other run. All totaled, the Mustang offense scraped up two runs on seven hits against Arizona's Michelle Floyd and Nancy Bowling.

Cal Poly's win was its first in four meetings all-time against Arizona and was the Mustang's first win against a ranked opponent in nearly two years.

3. Arizona shuts out LSU 3-0 and gives the Tigers their second loss of the season

The Wildcat offense spread six hits between five players in Arizona's upset of the LSU on the first day of Mary Nutter. Mandie Perez and Eva Watson both tallied an RBI, but Arizona pitcher Danielle O'Toole was the difference maker in this one.

Arizona's junior stud ace tossed a three-hitter against the potent Tiger offense. She fanned four LSU players twice each to give herself a total of eight strikeouts on the night while allowing only two walks.

Arizona's win at Mary Nutter was perhaps a little bit of payback for LSU eliminating the Wildcats in their 2015 NCAA Super Regional in which the Tigers scored 18 runs in two games against the Wildcats.

4. Notre Dame edges UCLA 8-6

Notre Dame won the slugfest against top 10 UCLA Bruins on Saturday at Mary Nutter. The Irish needed to use three pitchers in the contest, while UCLA pitched two on their staff. The two clubs combined for 24 hits in the game, with UCLA tallying more hits with 14; but the Irish came out on top with the two-run win over the Bruins.

Four different Notre Dame players posted RBIs, with freshman second baseman Ali Wester leading the charge with three.

Junior co-captain and Ali's sister, Karley Wester, described the satisfaction of taking two wins in a day, with one being over a top-ranked team. “It’s been a tough two weekends and we hadn’t really been able to get over the hump of winning twice in a day. Today that happened and we beat a top 10 team, so today felt so good.”
