Kassidy Krupit is a 2018 Hot 100 pitcher/infielder who helped the Georgia Impact-Lewis team make it to the PGF 14U National Championship game this summer as she led the team with six RBI in seven games and batted .333 while pitching 10 innings as well.

Now with the EC Bullets-Biele 16U team, Kassidy had numerous offers, including three from the SEC alone, but surprised many when she committed to the Delaware Fighting Blue Hens of the Colonial Athletic Association which also includes schools like College of Charleston, James Madison and Towson.

So why not go for the spotlight of a “power conference?” We asked Kassidy to explain why she committed to the Blue Hens and in this first person narrative she explains why a so-called “small school” like the Univ. of Delaware is a great fit for her on and off the field…

After coming off of a 2nd place PGF national championship finish, entertaining interests and offers, and attending many unofficial visits from several of the top programs in the country from the SEC, Pac-12 and Big Ten to name a few, I am often asked, “Why Delaware?”

I chose the University of Delaware for a number of reasons: the coaches, the campus, and the environment. But the one thing that really stood out to me was the school’s academic opportunities.

The academic opportunities that Delaware provides its students are tremendous. My interest is in Health Care, specifically Physical Therapy, and Delaware has the No. 2 PT (Physical Therapy) program in the nation (No. 1 when counting only schools with a softball program).

The school also has one of the top health care programs in the country, according to USAToday.com. It’s a comforting feeling knowing that the education I will be getting is top-notch and my college coaches, John Seneca, Rachel Coleman, and Sammi Shivock, as well as my future teammates are all awesome. I wouldn’t choose anyone else to experience my college life with!

On my visit, Coach John set up a tour of the Physical Therapy department with one the department professors. This was a great experience! It was a very personal tour where I had the chance to ask a lot of specific questions, one-on-one with someone that practices in the field.

I’m very thankful that Coach John supports me not just as a player, but also as a student and wants me to succeed in not only softball, but life as well. That’s the type of coach I want to play for!

I love that Coach John is all about family. On my visits, I formed new friendships with the other commits, their families, and current players while attending and tailgating at football and basketball games. It’s really cool that they’re from places all around the country like California, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Virginia, and Delaware. I can already tell that my future teammates and I are going to be lifelong friends as we keep in touch 24/7. The current players were also very welcoming and super nice.

Something else that really influenced my decision to choose Delaware was the atmosphere and the campus life. The athletes hang out with teammates from the other sports, they all attend each others’ games and support the different sports teams the university has. In fact, I was talking to a Delaware football player on my visit and he said that he and his teammates go to the softball games. It’s just a really fun environment to be in.

I am a pitcher and a multi-position player with a big bat. Versatility is one of my strengths, but some programs don’t allow their pitchers to hit. At Delaware, I will have the opportunity to pitch, hit, and field, which is important to me.

For all the recruits out there, I know the recruiting process can be very stressful, but there is always a school for you. Go somewhere you love and where they love you. Always think of life after softball—it’s four years of softball versus 40 years of a career!

The right school is out there for you, just keep all of your options open because you never know where your heart will settle!
