The softball community is in mourning after a car accident Wednesday night took the life of the 11-year-old brother of pitching star Logan Caymol, a 2019 Hot 100 pitcher committed to Tennessee, while her father and another brother are reportedly in critical condition.

Andrew Caymol died after a deer ran onto a highway near the family’s Buford, Georgia home causing another driver to swerve and hit the Caymol’s Honda Accord head-on, police reports say.

The Honda caught on fire and firefighters were able to put it , but were unable to revive Andrew who died on the scene.  The boy’s father, Teo, 47, and brother Matty, 13, were taken to the Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville along with the other driver who also suffered critical injuries.  Matty is reported to in Intensive Care battling to survive.

Logan plays for the East Cobb – Biele club 16U team which she moved to in the fall after leading the Georgia Impact – Lewis squad to a runner-up finish at the PGF 14U Nationals.

She’s a 6-foot-1 pitcher who has also been part of the Buford High team which has won nine straight Georgia state titles.

Teo has helped coach Logan and played professional basketball overseas while the pitcher also has a grandfather who was a quarterback at Clemson.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to raise money for medical and funeral expenses.

On a personal note, Teo and I were going back and forth via e-mail just hours before the accident as we were talking about the Bullets team picking up its fourth SEC verbal (which we’ll cover in detail later today in our Recruiting Roundup column). So sad and stunned to learn last night of the accident and devastating outcome.

A proud father and knowledegable coach, he has been supportive of FloSoftball and, on behalf of our staff, we extend our thoughts, prayers and condolences to the Caymol family.
