The No. 3 team in the nation, Amador Valley from Pleasanton, Calif., took the field on Thursday at the Michelle Carew Classic in Anaheim and didn’t disappoint.

The Dons escaped a first-round loss for the second year in a row thanks to the stellar pitching of UCLA-bound Johanna Grauer, who tossed an eight-inning no-hitter in a 1-0 win over a tough Murrieta Valley team.

Grauer, a serious candidate for National Player of the Year, then came back and pitched a one-hitter in the second game of the day, a 5-0 Dons’ victory over Piedra Vista from Farmington, N.M.

Note the recap near the bottom on the top-rated team in the nation, Mission Viejo (Calif.), as it pulled away late to win again with Taylor McQuillin striking out 15.
