Mauga was truly on fire at the plate for the Wildcats during their three-game series sweep of then-No. 24 Stanford, batting .625 (5-for-8) with six runs scored, four walks, four HR’s and an impressive 11 RBIs while slugging 2.125.

The San Diego, Calif., native got her weekend started by going 2-for-2 with three walks, three runs scored, a pair of HR’s and six RBIs during the wild, series-opening 18-12 win.

On Saturday Mauga went 2-for-2 with a pair of tallies, a HR and three RBIs as UA prevailed 12-3 (5 inn.). She wrapped up her efforts with a 1-for-4 Sunday performance that included a clutch, walk-off two-run HR in a 5-3 (8 inn.) triumph. For the season she is hitting .369 overall with 26 runs scored, 20 extra-base hits, including 13 HR’s, and 40 RBIs while slugging at a team-best .929 clip.

“I want to thank the NFCA for the recognition, I am incredibly honored,” Mauga said. “I am proud of the way my team competed this weekend against Stanford, and I am happy I was able to help us pick up the sweep in front of our amazing home crowd.”

“I am very excited for Katiyana to receive recognition as NFCA National Player of the Week,” Arizona head coach Mike Candrea said. “Kati has made an immediate impact as a freshman, and her honor is well deserved. Hopefully, this is just the beginning of a great career at The University of Arizona.”

No. 9 Arizona (32-8, 7-5 Pac-12) returns to league action over April 11-13 by traveling to Berkeley, Calif., to face-off against the Golden Bears in a three-game set.
