FAB 50 Spotlight: Southington, Ct. (5/17)
We’ve profiled and covered many of the top teams and players in the StudentSportsSoftball.com FAB 50, but one you may not know much about is Southington High (Ct.).
I personally do as when Student Sports was owned by ESPN, I lived in Southington and loved it! It’s the city that is next to Bristol, home of ESPN—in fact, part of the ESPN complex sits on Southington property, it’s that close to ESPN.
Southington High is the only high school in the city and so the sports program MLB players including Rob Dibble, the flame-throwing reliever who won a World Series back in 1990 with the Reds, and another championship-winning pitcher, Carl Pavano, who pulled in his ring with the 2003 Florida Marlins.
The softball program is lighting it up now, too, and is currently ranked 45th in the latest version of the FAB 50.
Pitcher Kendra Friedt has led the Blue Knights to a 14-0 record and the team has only given up eight runs all year behind the dominating junior who has a 0.37 ERA with 154 strikeouts in 83 innings. She’s also closing in on the school record of 186 K’s that was set in 1982.
