There were several “Championship Cups” that were awarded on Sunday: the soccer world watched Germany beat Argentina for the World Cup in that sport, the USA knocked off Canada to win the World Cup of Softball IX in Irvine, Calif. and only a hundred yards away the Champions Cup, a well-run ASA-produced tournament, saw the Arizona Hotshots-SE beat the Corona Angels in club action.

Additionally, over the weekend a very good Tampa Mustangs-TJ team beat the Gold Coast Hurricanes-Norman squad at the Rising Stars 16U Regional Showcase in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

This week sees each of the three major club event producers – Amateur Softball Association (ASA), Premier Girls Fastpitch (PGF) and Triple Crown Sports (TCS) kick off their major National Championships which will run over the next two weeks.
