Austin Stars 16U (2014 summer)
The Austin Stars 16U team, though fairly new, looks to be one of the fast-rising young teams in the Lone Star State.

Today we spotlight a young Texas team led by Head Coach Tony Degelia which is only two years old but “picking up steam” and looks to have college-level talent almost everywhere.

The coach adds, “We have had many competitive games with some of the best teams in the country and have played at the Colorado Sparkler and did very well there. We have beaten teams from, California, Louisiana, Minnesota and Colorado and have also played at the Fall Mizuno Invite, Texas State Showcase, McKinney Elite Showcase, Summer-Texas Glory Invite, Tulsa Elite Showcase and the Round Rock Elite Showcase where we went 5-0.”

One of the strengths of the team, which just recently played in the Texas Blaze Showcase, is pitching with four players over 5-foot-10. On offense, the stars can beat you with speed or power and has talent from top to bottom in the line-up.

“Our team is a mixture of D1 and D2 players,” Coach Degelia concludes. “They all will play in college somewhere!”

Here’s a player-by-player look at each member of the Stars with comments by Coach Degelia:

Reagan Beto
Reagan Beto

— SS/UT Reagan Beto (2017, uncommitted)
“Reagan is a very athletic utility player who can literally play anywhere on the field and not miss a beat. She combines speed and the ability to effectively slap with her good arm.”

— P Shelby Bray (2016, uncommitted)
“Shelby is 5-foot-11 and her best pitch is her curve. She hits in the mid 50’s and has a huge upside. Shelby has a great presence on the mound, she throws a lot of strikes and gets ahead of batters.”

— OF Emma Brieger (2016, uncommitted)
“Emma is a slap artist with a .600 batting average during this select season. Don’t blink, you might miss her 2.7 to first base!”

— P Lydia Clarke (2016, uncommitted)
“Lydia is 5-foot-10 and her best pitch is her screwball. She hits in the upper 50’s and touches 60 mph. Lydia has a strong presence on the mound and is never overwhelmed by the situation. She competes regardless of the score.”

Lolo Degelia
Lolo Degelia

— C/UT Lauren “Lolo” Degelia (2017, uncommitted)
“Lolo is a strong, athletic catcher with a rocket arm (65 mph) and bat speed/power (76 mph). She was recently intentionally walked at a college showcase due to hitting two home runs in back-to-back at-bats in the same game.”

— P Carina Esparza (2016, uncommitted)
“Carina is a 5-foot-10 who hits in the upper 50’s and low 60’s and is very competitive. Carina is truly a hard worker and has one of the best changes ups in Central Texas.”

— P/1B/3B Mattison Holt (2017, uncommitted)
“Mattison is 6-foot and her best pitches are a drop and curve. She hits mid 50’s, but is also good at other positions as she is athletic with the ability to run. Mattison also has huge power potential.”

— C/UT Taylor Malett (2018, uncommitted)
“Taylor has power and a quick release, she’s a tall athletic catcher who, without a doubt, is one of the best defense catchers in the country and only an incoming freshman.”

Corah Mondro (Austin Stars 16U)
Corah Mondro

— OF Corah Mondro (2017, uncommitted)
“Corah has good speed and is learning to slap. She’s a fast outfielder who gets good reads on fly balls and, though new to slapping, is really starting to come along. Corah is also great at laying out to catch any ball hit near her.”

— OF/UT Ivelisse Moreno (2018, uncommitted)
“If you want speed, she has plenty and is another slapper with excellent speed who has a strong arm in the outfield.”

— 3B/OF Emma Slawter (2017, uncommitted)
“Emma is one of those rare players with a second gear. She can hit, run and throw equally well and with her sister moved to Austin from Washington less than a year ago.”

— 2B/OF Noel Slawter (2017, uncommitted)
“Noel is very fast and is an athletic second baseman who, like her sister, can run. She is not afraid lay out for the ball.”
