More H.S. Invitees for Jr. Women’s Team tryout (12/3)
In case you missed the recent news, six more high school players and one college freshman have been invited to the tryouts exactly a month from now to try and make the 2015 USA Softball Junior Women’s (19-Under) National Team (JWNT):
- P Kelly Barnhill (Marietta, Ga./Florida commit, plays for East Cobb Bullets-Schnute)
- 1B/OF Mia Camuso (Redding, Calif./Oregon commit, plays for Sorcerer Gold)
- P Rachel Garcia (Palmdale, Calif./UCLA commit, plays for Corona Angels)
- OF Amanda Lorenz (Moorpark, Calif./Florida commit, plays for OC Batbusters – Haning/Stith)
- P Taylor McQuillin (Mission Viejo, Calif./Arizona commit, plays for OC Batbusters – Haning/Stith)
- OF Alyssa Palomino (Mission Viejo, Calif./Arizona commit, plays for OC Batbusters – Haning/Stith)
- IF DJ Sanders (Columbus, Miss./Louisiana-Lafayette Freshman)
That brings to 10 the total of high school-aged players who competing for a spot on the 17-member team.
The four of previous high school invitees were pitcher Taran Alvelo with the Beverly Bandits (2015, Washington commit), outfielder Mari Cranek of the Texas Magic Gold (2015, Alabama), infielder Alissa Dalton of the Diamond Sports Hotshots (2016, Oklahoma) and shortstop Lindsay Rood with Sorcerers Gold (2015, Cal).
Twenty college and high school athletes had already received invitations which the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball had announced in October.

All softball players born in 1996, ’97 and ’98 can register to be considered for the tryout, but must do so by this Friday (Dec. 5).
The 2015 JWNT Selection Camp will be held January 3-4, 2015 at Bill Barber Park in Irvine, Calif.
Seventeen athletes will be selected by members of the USA Softball Women’s National Team Selection Committee (WNTSC) to represent the United States as a member of the 2015 JWNT roster that will compete at the World Cup of Softball X in Southern California and the International Softball Federation (ISF) Junior Women’s World Championship, which will be held August 9-15 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
During the selection process, athletes will participate in position drills as well as simulated games and be evaluated by the WNTSC.
Once selected, the JWNT will compete in the World Cup of Softball X in Southern California and the ISF Junior Women’s World Championship in Oklahoma City, Okla. The complete 2015 schedule for the JWNT, including exhibition games, will be announced at a later date.
This will be the first time in World Cup of Softball history that the JWNT will participate as the team will build towards reclaiming the Gold at the ISF Junior Women’s World Championship.
At the last ISF Junior Women’s World Championship in 2013, the U.S. finished runner-up after falling 4-0 to Japan in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. This marks the first time since 1995 that an ISF Junior Women’s World Championship has been held in the United States.
The head coach of the Junior Women’s National Team will be Tairia Flowers, the head coach at Cal State Northridge.
