You can take one of the top uncommitted sophomores off the “still available” board as Jenna Kean, an outfielder/shortstop with the So Cal Athletics – Quarles team, committed over the weekend according to her father, Dave.

Before we reveal where she’s headed, just know that Jenna made the 2017 Hot 100 list in December as one of the hottest and most coveted prospects in the country based on a summer where, according to several club and college coaches we spoke to, “she took her great athletic ability and overall skills in the outfield to another level.”

Jenna had Big Ten and SEC universities looking at her as well as several Pac-12 schools because of her great speed and her stock really exploded at PGF Nationals when she helped her A’s team finish second in the 14U division by hitting .444 with five steals in eight games during the week.

The speedy outfielder also was one of the standouts at the West Coast Elite Camp held in mid-October and was called out for special praise by event producer Derek Allister of OnDeck.

Praising Jenna and another star outfielder, Courtney Pestka, a 2016 with the Idaho Sliders, Derek said: “These players are two of the best defensive outfielders we’ve had at our events in several years. Both can cover the outfield in ways you don’t see very much.”

And yes, I know you’re impatiently waiting to find out where she’s going… let me just end with this: looking back, I remember having a nice chat at PGF Nationals with her future head coach, a legend not afraid to get out and watch players.

That coach was Mike Candrea and Jenna will take her speed and fantastic offensive and defensive skills to the Univ. of Arizona.

So why the Wildcats?  Jenna says it was the coaches that was the biggest pull.

“It was absolutely the coaching staff at Arizona that got me,” she said today. “I was having a tough time deciding between UA and UCLA and after spending time with Coach Candrea and Caitlyn Lowe and watching their practice, I just knew this is where I had to be.”

“The facilities at Arizona are awesome and the new team room and field upgrades are incredible.”

“ It just felt right to commit now. Most of the players on our Quarles team are committed and a lot of girls at Los Al (Los Alamitos High, Calif).  It was my time and now I am going to be a Wildcat!”
