Emily Griggs made the Jr. National Team in January… but could there be a better outfielder coming through the Mustangs’ ranks?

The Wichita Mustangs organization has placed elite players at programs like LSU, Oklahoma and Texas recently including Emily Griggs, the freshman at LSU who in January was selected to the Jr. National Team. She’s also the daughter of Mustangs’ head man Mark Griggs.

As we gear up for the 2018 Hot 100 list to be finalized in a few weeks, we spoke to Jeff Cottrill who runs the 16U team and asked him what players were in the Mustangs program that are serious candidates to be considered for the ’18 list.

Here are the players he mentioned and why they’re considered as top prospects…

— MIF Kiley Naomi (2018, uncommitted)

“Kiley is from Louisiana and joined us this past fall.  She is probably the best all-around athlete in our entire organization (she was the state champion in the 400 as an 8th grader).”

“It took her a couple of tournaments in the fall to get used to the tougher competition, but by the time we went to The Ronald McDonald in late October, she was impressing numerous schools including Texas A&M and Alabama among others.”

“She will not get to play high school ball this year because of transfer rules, but I expect her to have a huge summer for our 16U team where she will bat 3rd in a loaded lineup.  Kiley has incredible range, a plus arm, and power to all fields.”

Macy Omli

— OF Macy Omli (2018, uncommitted)

“Macy attended the 2014 OnDeck West Coach National Elite Camp and was one of the fastest girls at the camp (she might have been the fastest).  She’s still eligible to play 14U, but Macy’s progression has earned herself a spot on our 16U team where she will lead off and play centerfield.”

“In 2014, playing 14U, she was 44-for-46 in stolen bases and scored 58 runs in 59 games.  She covers a lot of ground in the outfield with an above average arm.”

“Macy got a late start in competitive softball, but we believe she could be the best outfielder to come out of our organization (and that is saying a lot considering Emily Griggs is in that group).”

“Macy is receiving interest from Big 12 and SEC schools.”

Adi Reese

— 3B Adeline “Adi” Reese (2018, uncommitted)

“Adi most likely will be one of our girls at the 2015 OnDeck West Coach National Elite Camp. She has phenomenal hands at third base and hits for both average and power.”

“Adi hit .428 in the summer of 2014 and was 18-for-20 in stolen bases.  Like Macy above, we are moving Adi up to the 16U team this year even though she could play another year at 14U.”

“She is receiving interest from Big 12 and Big 10 schools and impressed the Oregon coaches at Triple Crown Nationals last summer.”

— 1B Savannah Hughes (2018, uncommitted)

“Savannah is impressive offensively and is a RBI machine.  Last summer for our 14U team, she finished the season second on our team in every major offensive category.”

“In 60 games, Savannah hit .448, drove in 50 runs, and had six home runs.  She has not received a great deal of interest from colleges yet, but that will change soon.”

“Savannah hit .454 this past fall at the 16U level and I am going to have her catch some for the 16U team this summer to see if that doesn’t open the recruiting up a bit.”

“We project her to be a 15-plus home-runs-per-year kid in college.”
