Rob Weil is one of the most successful coaches in high school and club softball, having won a CIF (Calif.) championship back in 1997 with Pacifica High of Garden Grove—a team that included future college All-Americans and National Champions Amanda Freed (UCLA) and Toni Mascarenas (Arizona)—as well as club titles more recently with the So Cal A’s-Richardson team which won the first four PGF 18U Premier titles.

Coach Weil has been at Los Alamitos High (Calif.) for the past seven years and has a program loaded with D1 talent enough to fill three varsity teams.

The Griffins are ranked No. 40 nationally in the Full Count Softball preseason FAB 50 High School Rankings and should be one of the favorites this year to go deep in the CIF playoffs.

I spoke to Rob a few weeks ago about his past, present and the future meaning this year’s Los Al team, but also about his switch recently from the A’s organization to coaching with Tony Rico and his Firecrackers team.
