Why Nevada: “The hometown factor did play a part in her decision,” says the sophomore’s father, Mark “She visited other schools and considered other offers to great schools but just kept coming back to what seems like the best fit. It is a special opportunity to play at the hometown school you grew up such a big fan of.”
“Julia attended her first Nevada softball camp when she was nine or ten years old. The Nevada coaches were interested in her for awhile and then made an offer last Fall during a visit. She went to the end of practice the day before the season started a few weeks ago. She met with the coaches in the dugout and told them she wants to play at Nevada.”
Coach’s Comments: “Julia just had an outstanding season and quite simply we would not have won the Northern Nevada Regional Championship or the Nevada State Championship without her.
I have to constantly remind myself that Julia is only a sophomore as her work ethic is incredible; she is not only physically ready for every game, but her mental preparation is at a whole other level. Bottom line, she is the most intelligent player that I have ever had the pleasure of coaching. There’s no doubt in my mind that Julia is worthy of All-American recognition.”

9 Questions with Julia…
FullCountSoftball.com: What pitches do you have and what is your “out pitch?”
Julia Jensen: I like to throw all of my pitches, drop ball, rise ball, curve ball, screw ball, and the change up. I don’t have a specific pitch that is my favorite, so I like to adjust to the hitter and the game situation.

FCS: How do you compare volleyball versus playing softball… how do they complement each other and make you a better athlete?
JJ: I love being able to play volleyball in high school as well as softball. Volleyball is so different from softball, but they are both very strategic games and that why I like to play both. Being a libero for my volleyball team teaches me to move quicker, and pitching has helped me develop metal strength and focus, which also helps me play volleyball.
FCS: How do you balance sports and academics to have a 4.3 GPA?
JJ: Balancing sports and school can be difficult, but I consider academics my priority and give 100% effort on my schoolwork just like I give 100% effort on the field. Softball has given me the opportunity to further my education, so I want to be prepared for college as best as I can by doing well in high school.
FCS: What will you remember most from this year?
JJ: My most memorable high school softball moment was celebrating in the middle of the field after winning a Nevada State Championship with my teammates in Las Vegas, because the sense of accomplishment and rush of emotions was overwhelming and very exciting.
FCS: What are you most proud of: your pitching or hitting from this season?
JJ: I am proud of the way that I stayed mentally tough while pitching after a long and tiring season, but I am most proud of my hitting this season because I had not hit for a year before this season, but I practiced a lot and was able to have a very successful hitting season.
FCS: When you have a free day, where are we mostly likely to find you?
JJ: I like to go to sporting events like football games, basketball games, and just about every other sport. I also like to spend time with my friends and family at the lake.
FCS: If you could change one thing about softball, what would it be?
JJ: If I could change anything about softball, I would like for more people to watch it, because I think people would really enjoy watching how fast-paced and intense our games are.
FCS: If you have a guest in town for a weekend, what would you do to entertain in Sparks?
JJ: I would definitely take visitors to Lake Tahoe, because it is very beautiful and a fun place to go. I also like to hike at Mt. Rose and go shopping around the Legends Mall in Sparks.
FCS: What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about softball?
JJ: I think that people believe that softball is a boring sport, and many people would be surprised to how fast everything goes in softball, and how intense the games are most of the time.
