PGF_logoFloSoftball did a live blog from the Premier Girls Fastpitch National Championships on Wednesday, July 29, at Huntington Beach Sports Complex. Here’s how it all went down.

PGF NATIONALS ROUNDUP

IN 18U PREMIER WINNER’S BRACKET FOURTH ROUND GAMES:

CA Corona Angels-Tyson 5, CA Cal Cruisers-Sievers 4: The Angels rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead and Megan Faraimo came on in relief to get the final out with runners on first and second to give them a dramatic come-from-behind win over the Cruisers.

UCLA-commit Kinsley Washington led off the top of the seventh with a single, moved to second on Anna Vines sacrifice and scored the tying run on Oklahoma-bound Shay Knighten’s double off the fence in right-center field.

Tristen Edwards hit a grounder to second for what should have been the third out of the inning, but an E-4 allowed Knighten to score the go-ahead run.

New Mexco State-commit Samaria Diaz, who did a stellar job in relief of Faraimo, ran out of gas in the bottom of the seventh, but Faraimo came back in the game to close out the game.

The Angels play So Cal A’s-Richardson in the fifth round of the Winner’s Bracket on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. at Field 4 at Huntington Beach Sports Complex.

CA So Cal A’s-Richardson 6, TN Fury ’97 0: Arkansas-commit Autumn Storms threw a no-hitter with no walks and three strikeouts and Michigan-bound Faith Canfield went 2 for 3 with three runs to lead the So Cal A’s.

CA OC Batbusters-Stith/Haning 2, CA All American Sports Academy 1: Washington-bound Morganne Flores drove in Washington-commit Taylon Snow with a grounder to short in the top of the eighth and Batbusters ace Taylor McQuillin, an Arizona signee, took care of AASA in the bottom half of the inning to put the finishing touches on a complete game win for the Batbusters.

McQuillin allowed two hits, one run, two walks and struck out eight to garner the victory, while Oregon State-bound Nerissa Long scattered eight hits, allowed two runs and two walks with five strikeouts to take the loss for AASA.

Washington-bound Tannon Snow went 3 for 3 and scored a run to lead the Batbusters’ offense.

IL Beverly Bandits 4, CA OC Batbusters-Briggs 2: The Bandits scored two unearned runs in the top of the sixth to pick up the victory over the Batbusters. Arizona State-commit Skyler McCarty went 2 for 4 with two runs and South Carolina-bound Alexis Mack went 2 for 4 with a run to lead the Bandits, who play OC Batbusters-Stith/Haning in a Winner’s Bracket fifth round game on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. at Field 3.

IN 18U PREMIER LOSER’S BRACKET SIXTH ROUND GAMES:

CA Firecrackers-Rico 7, GA Impact-Bass 3: Notre Dame-bound Ali Western went 2 for 4 with a double, two runs and two RBI and Oklahoma-commit Eliyah Flores belted a three-run homer to lift the Firecrackers, who play OC Batbusters-Briggs in a Loser’s Bracket seventh round game on Thursday at 8 a.m. Field 1.

CA So Cal A’s-Quarles 3, CA Lady Magic 0: Long Beach State-bound Cielo Meza pitched a no-hitter with one walk and 18 strikeouts for the A’s, who play AASA on Thursday at 8 a.m. at Field 2.

CA Firecrackers-Brashear 11, CA Sorcerer 3: After losing in the first round, Sorcerer won five consecutive games in the Loser’s Bracket before falling to the Firecrackers, who got homers from Tierra Falo and Ashley Ruiz. The Firecrackers play Fury ’97 on Thursday at 8 a.m. at Field 3.

AL Birmingham Thunderbolts 8, CA Explosion-Denio 3: Northwestern-bound Morgan Nelson went 2 for 4 with a run and three RBI and BYU-bound Libby Sugg went 2 for 4 with two RBI to lift the T-Bolts, who play the Cal Cruisers on Thursday at 8 a.m. at Field 4.

IN 18U PREMIER DIVISION WINNER’S BRACKET THIRD ROUND GAMES:

CA OC Batbusters-Stith/Haning 8, CA KG Hitters 0: Arizona-bound Taylor McQuillin allowed one hit, one walk and struck out 11 in five innings and Washington-bound Tannon Snow and Florida-bound Amanda Lorenz and Sophia Reynoso had two RBI apiece for teh Batbusters, who won via the mercy rule.

CA All American Sports Academy 3, CA Firecrackers-Rico 2: Uncommitted-2016 infielder Sami Aguilar delivered a walk-off single to give AASA the victory over the Firecrackers in 9 innings.

CA OC Batbusters-Briggs 3, TX Diamond Sports Hotshots 2: Uncommitted-2016 catcher Amanda Nishihira and San Diego-bound Lauren Kane came through with back-to-back RBI doubles in the top of the eighth and the Batbusters held on to beat the Hotshots.

IL Beverly Bandits-Conroy 7, CA So Cal Choppers 3: LSU-bound Michal Cunningham went 1 for 3 with three RBI, South Carolina-bound Alexis Mack went 3 for 4, James Madison-commit Jenny Behan went 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI and James Madison-commit Madison Naujokas went 2 for 4 with a double, a run and an RBI for the Bandits.

CA Corona Angels-Tyson 7, NC Lady Lightning Gold-Team Miken 4: Oklahoma-bound Shay Knighten hit a two-run homer to highlight a five-run inning in the bottom of the fifth that broke the game open for the Corona Angels.

CA Cal Cruisers-Sievers 5, CA Firecrackers-Brashear 1: Fordham-bound Kylie Michael hit a three-run homer and Utah-bound Maddie Roth went 1 for 3 with two RBI to lift the Cruisers over the Firecrackers.

TN Fury ’97 2, AL Birmingham Thunderbolts 0: Tennessee Chattanooga-Jordan Fortel pitched a no-hitter with five strikeouts to help Fury upset the Thunderbolts.

CA So Cal A’s-Richardson 5, CA Explosion-Denio 0: Tennessee-bound Matty Moss scattered six hits, walked one and struck out four to record the shutout for the So Cal A’s.

SORCERER STAYS ALIVE

Sorcerer (Calif.) rallied for six runs in the top of the eighth to beat Georgia Impact-Medlam, 11-6, for its third consecutive victory in the 18U Premier Division Loser’s Bracket. It’s a rough road in the Loser’s Bracket. Sorcerer would have to win three more games today to stay alive in the tournament.
