You could make the case that the No. 1 story of the summer was the remarkable tournament run by the Tampa Mustangs at the PGF 16U Premier Nationals.

The Mustangs, coached by TJ Goelz, lost their opening game–a play-in contest–and had to play the entire week in the Loser’s Bracket…. no pressure!

But an amazing thing happened: by Thursday of the 16U Premier week word was going around the event that the Mustangs were not only winning, they were run-ruling teams.  Then came Friday and the Mustangs beat a strong Tulsa Elite and was set to face the champ of the Winner’s Bracket, the Birmingham Thunderbolts.

This video starts with an interview of Coach Goelz prior to the two games against the Bolts, which the Mustangs defeated in a pair of one-run victories.

And then came Saturday and another thrilling game–another one-run win, this time against the Beverly Bandits Premier.
