Get to know more about the Tigers ahead of a big 2024 season:
How Did Auburn Softball Do In 2023?
Auburn went 43-19 and 15-9 in the loaded Southeastern Conference. Both marked the program's highest win totals since the 2017 season.
The Tigers advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the ninth consecutive season. They took regional host Clemson to an elimination game before bowing out.
Who Coaches Auburn Softball?
Mickey Dean is Auburn's head coach. Dean arrived on The Plains in 2018 after wildly successful tenures at Radford and James Madison.
Radford reached consecutive NCAA Tournaments in 2009 and 2010 during a run of four straight regular-season titles. At James Madison, Dean's teams reached the postseason all five years she headed up the Dukes.
Dean's sustained success carried over to Auburn. The Tigers have reached the NCAA Tournament in every full season since Dean's arrival, peaking with last season's record win total of 43.
Has Auburn Ever Won The Women’s College World Series?
No, Auburn has never won the Women's College World Series.
The Tigers reached the WCWS twice in consecutive seasons (2015 and 2016) and advanced to the title round in 2016.
Notable Returning Players
Nelia Peralta, INF
A 2023 All-SEC selection, Nelia Peralta was Auburn's leading hitter a season ago with a .329 batting average, 1.040 OPS and 54 total hits.
Peralta complements consistency with power, coming off a nine-home run campaign.
Along with Lindsey Garcia, who hit 10 home runs, and Icess Tresvik, who hit nine, Peralta is part of as solid a power-hitting trio there is in the SEC.
Maddie Penta, P
First-team All-American Maddie Penta was perhaps the most dominant pitcher in the sport in 2023 and arguably the hardest-working from the perspective of innings worked.
Penta pitched more than 220 innings, amassing an astounding 303 strikeouts. She mowed down 10 or more batters in 10 games, including an incredible 17 against Missouri.
Notable Newcomers
Anna Wohlers, C
Two-time All-BIG EAST Conference selection Anna Wohlers was an offensive dynamo for DePaul in 2022 and 2023.
Last season, she hit .364 with 12 home runs and 38 RBIs, building off an excellent freshman campaign in which she hit .318 with eight home runs.
Her bat certainly will add even more pop to an already impressive lineup, but Wohlers is as good behind the plate as digging into it. Wohlers did standout work catching for DePaul and should fill that role nicely for Auburn in 2024.
Mariah Penta, Util.
The younger sister of Auburn's All-American pitcher Maddie Penta will have plenty of opportunities to carve out her own reputation as a Tiger. The freshman arrives as one of the most heralded recruits from the 2023 graduating class.
