Texas Softball Schedule Begins With Huge Games Vs. UCLA In First Weekend
The Texas Softball team begins final year in the Big 12 with a trip to Southern California to face UCLA Softball at the Mark Campbell Invitational.
The Texas Softball team has high expectations in 2024 following its 45-15-1 2023 campaign that ended in the NCAA Super Regionals.
And it gets started with a bang in California.
The Longhorns, coached by Mike White and led by pitcher Mac Morgan, opens the season as the No. 8 team in the country and the second highest ranked team in the Big 12. The Longhorns finished second to three-time defending national champion Oklahoma Softball in the league last season with a 11-7 record. The No.1-ranked Sooners, meanwhile, went 18-0.

Texas’ final season in the Big 12 starts in California and its second game of the season against No. 10 UCLA Softball in what is the Bruins’ final year in the Pac-12. The two teams will play on Feb. 9 and Feb. 10. The Longhorns will also play San Diego on both days.
The last game is part of the 2024 Mark Campbell Invitational. Here’s what to know about Texas Softball.
Texas Softball Led By Strong Pitching Staff
Morgan carried a 2.50 ERA and 18-4 record in 2023 with 76 strikeouts in 145.2 innings. Meanwhile, Citlaly Gutierrez was 13-6 but had a 2.00 ERA and 77 strikeouts. Estelle Czech rounded out the staff with a 10-4 record with a 2.56 ERA and a team-high 79 strikeouts in 87.1 innings.
Texas Softball vs. UCLA Softball
The matchup that closes out the Mark Campbell Invitational on Feb. 9 is one between two heavyweight programs. UCLA was preseason No. 2 in 2023 and went 52-7 before, like Texas, the season ended in the Super Regionals.
Against Texas, the Bruins are 12-7 all-time with a 4-1 record in the Women’s College World Series. The Longhorns, though, won the last meeting 7-2 in 2022 in Oklahoma City.
The programs first played in 1999 in an early-season matchup and the Bruins won 5-4. This is the first regular season meeting between the two programs since the No. 3 UCLA beat No. 9 Texas 2-1 at the St. Pete Clearwater Elite Invitational in 2022.

Who Was Mark Campbell?
A high school and travel softball coach in and around Southern California for much of his life until his untimely death in 2019. Campbell was well-respected across the sport for his commitment and passion, spending countless hours with players and helping turn many across the region into collegiate stars.
The Mark Campbell Collegiate Invitational was created in his memory to recognize, as the tournament website refers to him as, “a great ambassador to our sport.”
Where Is The Mark Campbell Collegiate Invitational?
The Mark Campbell Invitational takes place at the Deanna Manning Stadium, located within Bill Barber Memorial Park in Irvine, California.
The venue frequently hosts high school and recreational games throughout the year and is known best—especially among diehard travel softball fans and figures—as one of the host venues for The Champions Cup, an elite youth softball tournament held in July
The stadium officially holds just shy of 800 spectators, but don’t be shocked if that number gets stretched even further. For instance, Oklahoma listed its official attendance for its Friday night game at last season’s Mark Campbell Collegiate Invitational against Stanford at exactly 1,000 people.
