Oklahoma Softball and UCLA Softball played in one of the most anticipated games of the 2023 non-conference season at last year's Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, California. 

It didn't end very well for the Bruins. The defending and the eventual national champion Sooners won 14-0 over the then No. 1 UCLA team.

The Sooners went 61-1 in 2023. Yeah. 

And it was that UCLA game, coming just a few days after their only loss to Baylor (4-3 at the Getterman Classic), that re-established the Sooners as the overwhelming favorite to win the championship. 

The question for 2024 is: Will the Sooners use this year's tournament to spur a championship run again?

The 2024 Mary Nutter Classic helps finishes the first month of the college softball season and includes some of the best team in the nation. Once again the No.1 and No.2 teams in the country will be in the field. Unlike last year, No.1 OU will not be playing No. 2 Tennessee. 

While OU isn't currently scheduled to face a preseason top 25  team, the Sooners will play Wisconsin, San Diego State, Notre Dame and Loyola Marymount. The marquee matchup will be Tennessee's showdown with UCLA on Feb. 25.

When Is The Mary Nutter Softball Tournament?

The Mary Nutter Classic is Feb. 22 to Feb. 25. Games begin Thursday and culminate with the final games on Sunday. 

Where Is The Mary Nutter Softball Tournament?  

The Mary Nutter Classic is at the Big League Dreams Complex in Cathedral City, California. The complex has five fields available.

Who Is Mary Nutter?

Mary Nutter was an All-American softball player and a pioneer in the sport. 

She was a coach at Pittsburgh State and was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1988 and the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1997.

Nutter died in 2012.
